Obama-style ‘national security’: Allow Iran to self-inspect; Spy on Netanyahu

A couple of years ago, President Obama said that “friends and allies” deserve a phone call to find out what’s on their minds rather than resorting to surveillance.

The Ayatollah might have gotten a friendly phone call, but those opposed to the Iran deal basically got bugged:

The White House instructed US spies to eavesdrop on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials earlier this year in an effort to counter campaigning against the Iran nuclear deal, despite promising to curtail listening in on foreign leaders, according to a Wall Street Journal report late Tuesday.

The National Security Agency’s spying dragnet was cast so wide it caught conversations Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders had with US officials and Jewish American leaders, leading to what one source called an “oh shit moment,” when the extent became clear according to the report, which cites several current and former US officials.

According to the WSJ story, Obama said that surveilling Iran deal opponents served a “compelling national security purpose.”

“Obama logic” in a nutshell: Preventing Netanyahu and others from standing in the way of a deal that could give Iran’s “death to America & Israel” cheerleaders a path to developing nukes was vital to national security!

By the way, the WSJ report wasn’t denied:

Whenever Obama’s saying somebody might be compromising “national security,” you know somewhere there’s a person either opposing the Iran deal and/or refusing to beer-bong the climate change Kool Aid.
