Russia names US as nat’l security threat, Obama admin will blame climate change (a Sunday open thread)

Welcome to 2016! This year we’ll elect a new president and choke on Air Force One fumes as Obama flies around the world trying to convince everybody of his climate change legacy, among other things. We’ll start the year with an open thread to talk about anything and everything.

Here are a few things from the long weekend to get it rolling…

Remember when Obama mocked Romney by informing him “the Cold War is over”? Good times:

Russia has named the U.S. as one of the threats to its national security in a new assessment signed by President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, according to a published report.

Reuters reported the document, “About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation,” replaces the 2009 version endorsed by former President Dmitry Medvedev, which didn’t mention the U.S. or NATO. Russia continues to increase its role in solving global conflicts, which has caused some reaction from the West, according to the document.

It is the first time Russia has officially named the U.S. a national security threat, according to Reuters.

Hillary can list this to the “long-term diplomatic success stories” section of her presidential resume:

Oddly enough, Americans also seem to realize in increasing numbers that the Obama administration is a threat to national security.

In President Obama’s weekly address he continued working toward what his real legacy will be: The most divisive president the country has ever had:

In the address, Obama went on to urge citizens to stand up against the groups like the National Rifle Association, with which he has had a contentious relationship since entering office.

“The gun lobby is loud and well organized in its defense of effortlessly available guns for anyone,” he said. “The rest of us are going to have to be just as passionate and well organized in defense of our kids.”

There’s millions and millions of Americans who believe in 2nd Amendment rights, and then there’s “the rest of us.” Obama offers a greater defense of people in the country illegally than he does law-abiding citizens of his own country.

On Thursday, CNN will host a town hall with Obama about gun control. I’m guessing the show will be sponsored by a number of gun manufacturers because the president has been so very good for sales.

Pander alert!

Her fake accent for this “outreach” promises be as hilariously insulting as her other fake accents.

Windy City irony: Rahm Emanuel of “never let a crisis go to waste” fame has made a lot of political enemies who aren’t letting a crisis go to waste:

The protests reflect frustration with chronic problems Emanuel inherited in Chicago, a city long plagued by police brutality, failing schools, rampant gang violence and dire finances. But as Emanuel enters his second term, critics say he has deepened distrust in City Hall through a string of scandals affecting his administration, a lack of transparency and his abrasive personal style.

The media continues to use excavators to bury the lede about Chicago, which is that the city’s been fully controlled by Democrats for decades and decades. But only more Democrat “solutions” can fix the problem, or something.

Headline of the year (so far): Fight breaks out at Newark anti-violence rally. Perfect.

Have a good Sunday all!
