EuroSolyndra, here we come! Obama gives U.N. Green Climate Fund first $500 million of $3 billion he pledged

After the Paris climate deal was made, President Obama said he agreed to give the U.N. $3 billion of our money so they could help other countries fight global warming because if he didn’t Florida would be under water.
If you’re on a beach in Miami today and wondering why the water is a little lower, it’s because Obama has paid the first installment to the collective of Mr. Haneys & Chicken Littles who run the U.N. Green Climate Fund:
The United States has paid $500 million into the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund, the first tranche of the $3 billion it pledged as part of the commitments it made in the December Paris Climate Agreement, the State Department confirmed Monday.
“This grant is the first step toward meeting the president’s commitment of $3 billion to the GCF, and shows that the United States stands squarely behind our international climate commitments,” a State Department spokesman said.
What the hell… we’re only $20 trillion in debt.
How was Obama able to give away that much money? Simple — Republicans let him:
But lawmakers did not block the funds in December after they wrapped up a sprawling budget deal to keep the U.S. government operating through next September.
Thank God for that GOP majority in Congress!
The United Nations’ first step to saving the planet with our money? Hiring lots of bureaucrat trainees (h/t Pirate’s Cove):
Héla Cheikhrouhou, the fund’s executive director, told Reuters earlier this month she will ask the board to approve an increase of between 80 and 120 new staff to meet the spending target.
“We need to have the tools and we need to have the people in place before we scale up further,” she told Reuters.
The climate feels more stable already!
Compare & contrast:
Obama on the Paris climate change deal in November: “What a powerful rebuke to the terrorists it will be when the world stands as one.”
Obama’s top counter-terror adviser yesterday: Terror groups planning “sophisticated and coordinated attacks” and “what keeps me up at night is that this threat is unlike what we’ve seen before.”
Terrorists don’t sound very rebuked to me. Maybe the next $500 million payment to the U.N. will stop them.
