Perfect: John Kerry opposes offshore tax havens the same way he leads by example on climate change

When John Kerry was running for president in 2004, he criticized “Benedict Arnold CEOs” as well as offshore tax havens:

Offshore tax havens and tax shelters let corporations and executives evade an estimated $20 to $40 billion each year–taxes that must be made up by other taxpayers or by government borrowing.

And these offshore tax havens rob us of more than tax dollars, for they are where renegade corporations flee from all responsibility to shareholders, employees, rules of fair play, and their own country. It’s no accident that Enron had over 800 subsidiaries in countries with no taxes on income, profits, or capital gains. These included 692 in the Cayman Islands alone.

Kerry said in 2004 that if he wasn’t elected president, offshore tax havens would continue and the rich wouldn’t be made to pay their “fair share” — and boy was he right:

That John Kerry… always leading by example:

Secretary of State John Kerry and his wife Teresa Heinz have invested millions of U.S. dollars through family trusts in at least 11 offshore tax havens, according to an analysis by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
But a DCNF investigation has confirmed that the former Massachusetts Democratic senator and his billionaire wife, using an elaborate set of Heinz family trusts, have invested “more than $1 million” each into 11 separate offshore accounts — mainly hedge funds in the Cayman Islands.

John Kerry: As serious about getting rid of offshore tax havens for the mega-wealthy as he is about combating climate change.

Just about three weeks ago, President Obama was in full finger-wagging mode:

Go tell that to your secretary of state!

The only thing “historic” about this administration is that it has been run by a record number of hypocrites.
