Shorter Obama in Orlando: Good thing nobody else at the club had a gun or it could have been a lot worse

In Orlando on Thursday, President Obama, ringed by heavily armed security and a vice president who has advised people to fire shotguns through closed doors, castigated those who think a good guy with a gun might have made a difference:

In Orlando, Fla., President Obama referred to Donald Trump’s recent claim that more lives could have been saved at Pulse if more patrons were armed themselves. Such a notion “defies common sense,” he said, without naming Trump.

You read that right: Forty-nine people dead and dozens more severely injured, but Obama wanted everybody to imagine how much worse the carnage might have been if somebody had been carrying a gun for self defense:

OBAMA: This debate needs to change. It’s outgrown the old political stalemates. The notion that the answer to this tragedy would be to make sure that more people in a nightclub are similarly armed to the killer defies common sense. Those who defend the easy accessibility of assault weapons should meet these families and explain why that makes sense.

What “defies common sense” is taking the actions of a registered Democrat who pledged allegiance to ISIS and blaming it on Republicans and the NRA, but I digress.

Oh, and Obama is still forced to pretend to remain unclear on the killer’s motives.
