Benghazi report: Military response delayed while Obama admin debated what they should wear

Let’s just get Hillary’s response to the House Benghazi Committee report out of the way right out of the gate:

null

The report was released this morning.

House Republicans released a long-awaited report Tuesday on the Benghazi terror attacks that killed four Americans on Hillary Clinton’s watch as secretary of state, reviving the politically charged issue less than five months before the election.

The report, parts of which CNN reviewed in advance, paints a picture of a perfect storm of bureaucratic inertia, rapidly worsening security in Libya and inadequate resources in the months that led up to the killings of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three colleagues on September 11, 2012.

Clinton told the House Benghazi Committee last year that she was aware of the dangers in Libya but “there was no actionable intelligence” indicating a planned attack.

Why couldn’t the military arrive in Benghazi in time to perhaps have a chance to save lives? Brace yourselves:

The report highlights the military’s failure to carry out Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s order to deploy forces to Benghazi and the lengthy delay that prevented the military assets from arriving at the embassy in Tripoli until 2 p.m. the day after the Benghazi attack.

“What was disturbing from the evidence the Committee found was that at the time of the final lethal attack at the Annex, no asset ordered deployed by the Secretary had even left the ground,” the report states.

Previous accounts blamed the “tyranny of time and distance” plus the failure to have airplanes ready for the significant delay in moving military assets. But the report states conflicting orders from State Department and Pentagon officials over whether Marines should wear military uniforms or civilian attire also played a role.
[…]
In a newly revealed two-hour secure video conference on the night of the attacks led by White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and attended by Clinton and others, State Department officials raised concerns about the diplomatic sensitivities of the attire to be worn by assets launched.
[…]
According to one commander, the report states, as forces prepared to deploy, “during the course of three hours, he and his Marines changed in and out of their uniforms four times.”

And in the following days, the administration blamed a video:

CNN is pitching in with the pro-Hillary spin:

The report called it a “tragic failure of leadership,” but you do you, CNN!

The New York Times is helping out too:

No “new” evidence? The Dems didn’t even seem to care too much about the old evidence.

The report also found that the State Department’s Accountability Review Board was dangling from strings being pulled by Cheryl Mills (by way of Ed Morrissey at Hot Air):

Cheryl Mills, the longtime attorney, friend and former chief of staff for Hillary Clinton, influenced the findings of an internal State Department review of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a draft of the final House Benghazi Committee report.

A section of the report obtained by POLITICO says the so-called Accountability Review Board did not act independently, as it was supposed to do, and was consistently influenced by Mills. Mills, the report says, helped select members of the panel, gave at least one other State Department official permission to talk to the reviewers, oversaw the production of some documents reviewed by the board and helped edit the final report.

“The decisions to deviate from longstanding processes raise questions about the board’s independence, thoroughness and therefore the fullness of their findings of accountability,” the report reads.

Controlling the “independent” review board probably wasn’t too hard for Mills to do, because four out of five of the members were put in place by Hillary Clinton. She has a harder time controlling her own husband than she did steering the direction of the review board.

Democrats said the GOP report was just partisan politics. And because they have zero sense of irony, Democrats on the committee released their own report, and it mentions the name “Trump” more times than two of the men who died in Benghazi.
