IRS investigating Clinton Foundation, and we all know how that’s going to turn out

Instead of wasting time and money, the IRS might as well follow the FBI’s lead and put out a statement now saying the Clinton Foundation’s bookkeeping was sloppy but they didn’t intend to do anything wrong, because you know it’s coming:

The IRS is reviewing Republican complaints about the Clinton Foundation’s nonprofit status, a step that GOP House lawmakers have been trying to initiate for more than a year. The agency’s embattled commissioner, John Koskinen, said in a letter this week that he forwarded the allegations to one of the agency’s audit groups.

“The IRS response shows that the inquiry has been elevated,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) told POLITICO in an emailed statement. “The letter we recently received was a referral signed by the Commissioner himself. The IRS knows that it can no longer ignore the Foundation’s activities, as a result of multiple letters from Congress and mounting public pressure.”

Blackburn led more than 60 other House Republicans in calling on three federal agencies to investigate the charity earlier this month. They pointed to “unresolved media reports raising significant issues of public corruption regarding Foundation activities” in a July 15 letter to Koskinen, FBI Director James Comey and Federal Trade Commission Chair Edith Ramirez.

A more likely outcome: Complete vindication of the Clinton Foundation and a tax audit for certain Republicans.
