California lawmakers pass single-payer…as state heads towards bankruptcy again

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 29, 2010 12:34 PM

I noted the California Senate Appropriations Committee’s plans last week to push a single-payer program through the legislature.
Showing their impeccable timing, the progressives approved the bill in the Senate yesterday at a cost of $200 billion a year…just as the state controller announced that California is set to run out of cash again in April:
State [...]

SOTU open thread: Blame the lobbyists! Fund high-speed rail boondoggles! Spending freeze plan met with near-silence, laughter; disses SCOTUS in front of SCOTUS

Scroll for updates/liveblogging…

We’re an hour and a half away from President Obama’s Swagga Recovery Speech. He’s going to get his mojo back, we’re told, by acknowledging missteps — and then dumping the blame on lobbyists. Seriously. I know a lot of folks are organizing SOTU drinking games. But I don’t need the headache. This [...]

Secret AIG bailout docs leaked; Update: Bernanke on the hot seat

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 27, 2010 04:54 PM

Eeenteresting. About a week ago, the SEC agree to cover-up bailout documents for AIG until 2018. The documents relate to the backroom bank bailout payments at top dollar to AIG counterparties — which know-nothing Tim Geithner was grilled about today on the Hill. The leak comes as Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke heads to the Hill [...]

TARP/multiple bailout-supporting McCain to vote against Bernanke

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 25, 2010 01:54 PM

Hard for me to suppress a snort. But here it is: John McCain — who supported the $700 billion TARP bailout, the $25 billion auto bailout, a $300 billion mortgage bailout, and the first $85 billion AIG bailout – has grandiosely announced that he will oppose Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s second term:
“Our country is [...]

McCain-backed GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina hearts Jesse Jackson — and radical gender politics

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 23, 2010 09:52 AM

As if California GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina’s massive bailout-supporting economic advice for John McCain wasn’t bad enough (reminder from yesterday’s column: “In California, McCain’s PAC supports former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina – a celebrity name with deep pockets of her own, massive media exposure, and a checkered business record. Fiorina served as the economic [...]

Conservatives: Beware of McCain Regression Syndrome

The question isn’t why Sarah Palin is helping John McCain. The question is: What are you doing to stop him from cementing his Big Government Republican legacy?

“Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee” = The Cover Tim Geithner’s A** Tax

It’s not quite the Mother of All Distractions, but it’s up there. Maybe the First Cousin of All Distractions.
The White House unveiled its ballyhooed $90 billion plan to punish banks with a “Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee” this afternoon. It’s faker than the fake garden vegetables the First Lady served [...]

Culture of Corruption Watch: White House, Dems stand behind Geithner in AIG/backdoor bank bailout cover-up

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 11, 2010 03:47 PM

Photoshop/CoC card set credit: Tennyson Hayes
Late last week, Bloomberg News reported that the New York Federal Reserve Bank — then under the leadership (or rather, lack of leadership) of Tim Geithner — presided over a systemic effort in the fall of 2008 to suppress public disclosure of ailing insurer AIG’s backdoor bailout payments to banks [...]

A GOP “Young Gun” to watch

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 8, 2010 10:35 AM

The Wall Street Journal’s Kim Strassel profiles GOP up-and-comer Sean Duffy, a 38-year-old district attorney in Wisconsin who’s taking on decrepit Democrat incumbent Rep. David Obey. He’s bringing fresh blood and energy to the fight — and he’s focused on fiscal responsibility:

Wisconsin’s Mr. Duffy describes it this way: “I’m running because this is the fight [...]

Culture of Corruption casualty: Chris Dodd bows out; CT AG Blumenthal to run

Charter member of the Team Obama Culture of Corruption
During the Christmas break, corruptocrat Sen. Chris Dodd held a press conference hailing the Senate government health care takeover bill. But he couldn’t distract from the stink of his ethics scandals and his mounting unpopularity at home.
A prescient constituent heckled him during the press conference:
“You’re not gonna [...]

Darkness reigns: Obama and the Vampire Congress

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 6, 2010 09:45 AM

It’s official. Why is Obama still in Hawaii?

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 30, 2009 02:09 AM

Five days after the Christmas Day bomber tried to blow up NWA Flight 253 over Detroit, President Obama is still on vacation in Hawaii. He has delivered two hasty, tie-less statements on homeland security from a makeshift podium in Honolulu whose underwhelming sum impact has been the equivalent of voting “present” (Obama’s career m.o.) My column looks at the year in Washington political bribery. And what a year it was for the Beltway’s reverse Santa Clauses, who are suspended simultaneously in mental states of denial and indignation. Democrat Sen. Forcing a vote on Demcare’s constitutionality

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 22, 2009 01:48 PM

GOP Sens. Jim DeMint and John Ensign announced this afternoon that they’ll force a vote on the constitutionality of Demcare’s individual health care mandate. (Democrat response: Constitution? Wellness prevention programs are an inalienable right!)
Here’s the press release:
Today, U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) and John Ensign (R-Nevada), raised a Constitutional Point of Order on the [...]

President Obama’s hometown cronies lost their bid to bring the 2016 Olympic Games to the Windy City. But this week, they got a consolation prize: the Gitmolympics. On Tuesday, the White House went public with its official plans to purchase the Thomson Correctional Facility from financially-strapped Illinois [...]

House passes new financial industry power grab with CBC payoffs

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 11, 2009 03:07 PM

I noted Barney Frank’s cave-in to CBC demands for a $6 billion payoff on the House Dems’ financial industry power grab yesterday.
Well, the “reform” package passed this afternoon 223-202 with all Republicans and 27 Democrats voting no.
The roll call vote is here.
Democrat Rep. Barney Frank’s counterpart in the Senate, corruptocrat Sen. Chris Dodd, is shepherding [...]

Scrooge pay czar tightens screws on midlevel employees

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 11, 2009 01:11 PM

Just in time for Christmas, pay czar Kenneth Feinberg has clamped down on the salaries of midlevel employees at bailed-out companies. But the broader targets are not just bailed-out firms, of course. The power-grabby pay czar wants his limits to be adopted industry-wide.
Bah-humbug, via MarketWatch:
The Obama administration’s pay czar announced on Friday new limits on [...]

$6 billion payoff: Barney Frank gives in to Congressional Black Caucus shakedown crew

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 10, 2009 10:22 PM

Cue up “Do the Hustle.” Looks like the extortionists of the Congressional Black Caucus got their way.
Last week, I noted the CBC’s efforts to squeeze bailout money from the Democrats’ financial “reform” package for minority-owned businesses — specifically, the failing radio/media empire of former Malcolm X lawyer and Air America/Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton/Charlie Rangel crony Percy [...]

Next use for TARP: Government union slush fund

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 4, 2009 02:20 PM

Follow the bouncing ball: TARP, the trillion-dollar-plus banking bailout, has morphed from a toxic assets purchase plan to a capital injection plan, back to a toxic assets purchase plan, to a life insurance company bailout, to an auto supplier bailout. I’m sure I forgot more.
Well, now the Democrats want to use it to bail out [...]
