John Murtha dead at 77

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 8, 2010 03:45 PM

Democrat Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania passed away today at Virginia Hospital Center following gallbladder surgery last month.
I’ll let my archives on his political career speak for itself. For now, condolences to the Murtha family. And I echo this message from GOP challenger Bill Russell:

Colorado Springs Derangement Syndrome

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 8, 2010 10:09 AM

I’m proud to call Colorado Springs home for myriad reasons — quality of life, cost of living, terrific schools, physical beauty, Fort Carson, the Air Force Academy, and great cultural amenities. For starters. The city leans conservative to libertarian, but is no monolith. There are “progressives” and Big Business statists and everything in between. Most [...]

The Super-Sized Census Boondoggle

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 5, 2010 10:19 AM

My column looks at the bloated Census p.r. and education budget. GOP Sen. Johnny Isakson is asking questions. As well he should. History shows that the more the Census spends on advertising, the lower the response rate is. Best watchdog site for all the latest Census shenanigans: My Two Census.

“Pay as you go” = Delay as you go; Update: House embraces $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, 217-212

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 4, 2010 01:01 PM

Scroll for updates…
The House is currently debating the federal debt ceiling increase to $14.3 trillion. (The Senate, with every single Democrat voting in favor, adopted the debt limit increase last week.) These measures are on top of two other debt limit increases over the last year (including one adopted in the dead of night over [...]

No tax left behind

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 2, 2010 10:39 AM

Cha-ching:
While President Barack Obama is proposing to cut some taxes for companies that hire workers, his budget would raise a host of other taxes on businesses and wealthy individuals.
The budget proposal released Monday would extend Obama’s signature Making Work Pay tax credit — $400 for individuals, $800 for a couple filing jointly — through 2011. [...]

Cirque du Jihad: Coming to a federal court near you?

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 29, 2010 03:08 AM

My syndicated column today expands on Tuesday’s blog post about the Aafia Siddiqui terror trial debacle in New York City (see here for background/links) and what it portends for the future. Yes, I call it Cirque du Jihad. The White House and DOJ are now scrambling to cook up contingency plans for their jihadi show [...]

Retreat: White House plays jihadi musical chairs

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 28, 2010 09:37 PM

President Obama’s rhetoric meets reality, again.
After pushing hard to try Gitmo detainees in New York City, the White House has now ordered the Justice Department to try and find other venues. They are still insisting on shipping suspected jihadis to federal courts on U.S. soil.
It’s going to be a long, [...]

SOTU open thread: Blame the lobbyists! Fund high-speed rail boondoggles! Spending freeze plan met with near-silence, laughter; disses SCOTUS in front of SCOTUS

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 27, 2010 07:40 PM

Scroll for updates/liveblogging…

We’re an hour and a half away from President Obama’s Swagga Recovery Speech. He’s going to get his mojo back, we’re told, by acknowledging missteps — and then dumping the blame on lobbyists. Seriously. I know a lot of folks are organizing SOTU drinking games. But I don’t need the headache. This [...]

The state of Obama’s dis-union

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 27, 2010 09:49 AM

My syndicated column today torches President Obama’s fiscal freeze follies. A new CBO reports says the year-old Porkulus will now cost $75 billion more than originally estimated. Which is why the White House is scrambling to de-emphasize its spending discipline pose and talk about something else. Anything else. Like new legislation “restricting foreign corporations from [...]

Another broken promise: “I will finally end the abuse of no-bid contracts once and for all”

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 25, 2010 12:26 PM

No corruption-scented no-bid contracts…except for Barack Obama’s own cronies, that is. James Rosen at FNC has the scoop:
The Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a prominent Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.
Despite President Obama’s long [...]

McCain-backed GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina hearts Jesse Jackson — and radical gender politics

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 23, 2010 09:52 AM

As if California GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina’s massive bailout-supporting economic advice for John McCain wasn’t bad enough (reminder from yesterday’s column: “In California, McCain’s PAC supports former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina – a celebrity name with deep pockets of her own, massive media exposure, and a checkered business record. Fiorina served as the economic [...]

The new revolt against Demcare: State opt-out initiatives

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 19, 2010 07:34 PM

Some taxpayers aren’t waiting for the results of the Massachusetts election to take action against the federal health care power grab.
Today in Denver, activists unveiled a new state initiative effort to protect Coloradans from the Demcare individual insurance mandate. Jon Caldara of the Independence Institute spearheaded the rally to “Free Our Health Care.” The People’s [...]

In other news: Judicial Watch sues over smelly Biden-tied, taxpayer-funded loan deal

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 19, 2010 04:35 PM

The culture of corruption never rests. Neither does Judicial Watch, which has just filed a Freedom of Information lawsuit over a possible quid pro quo deal involving VP Joe Biden.
The deets:
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against [...]

“Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee” = The Cover Tim Geithner’s A** Tax

It’s not quite the Mother of All Distractions, but it’s up there. Maybe the First Cousin of All Distractions.
The White House unveiled its ballyhooed $90 billion plan to punish banks with a “Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee” this afternoon. It’s faker than the fake garden vegetables the First Lady served [...]

Culture of Corruption Watch: White House, Dems stand behind Geithner in AIG/backdoor bank bailout cover-up

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 11, 2010 03:47 PM

Photoshop/CoC card set credit: Tennyson Hayes
Late last week, Bloomberg News reported that the New York Federal Reserve Bank — then under the leadership (or rather, lack of leadership) of Tim Geithner — presided over a systemic effort in the fall of 2008 to suppress public disclosure of ailing insurer AIG’s backdoor bailout payments to banks [...]

“Green Jobs” = SEIU/Union Jobs

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 7, 2010 02:02 PM

As if you needed more evidence of the boondoggle-ishness of the Green Jobs racket, two items for your file:
1) Via Inside Charm City, Maryland’s Democrat Senators dole out green job funding to an SEIU partnership…
Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-Md.) today announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes funding for [...]

Culture of Corruption casualty: Chris Dodd bows out; CT AG Blumenthal to run

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 6, 2010 09:59 AM

Charter member of the Team Obama Culture of Corruption
During the Christmas break, corruptocrat Sen. Chris Dodd held a press conference hailing the Senate government health care takeover bill. But he couldn’t distract from the stink of his ethics scandals and his mounting unpopularity at home.
A prescient constituent heckled him during the press conference:
“You’re not gonna [...]

Darkness reigns: Obama and the Vampire Congress

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 6, 2010 09:45 AM

It’s official. The Hill reports this morning that the Dems have formally agreed to bypass the formal conference committee process to ram the government health care plan through for Barack Obama: “Aides said the agreement was reached during a Tuesday evening meeting at the White House with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and [...]

More Census propagandizing in the schools: $13 billion kiddie campaign

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 4, 2010 11:49 PM

I’ve noted the Obama administration’s use of children as Census p.r. staff before. (See Meet Obama’s newest Census collectors: Your kids!, Aug. 27, 2009).
Brace for even more aggressive tactics in the classroom — like this effort in Florida (hat tip – reader Susanne):
Ariel Civelek was just a baby in the last U.S. Census, but [...]

Beltway Christmas: Cash for corruptocrats

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 23, 2009 09:30 AM

My column looks at the year in Washington political bribery. And what a year it was for the Beltway’s reverse Santa Clauses, who are suspended simultaneously in mental states of denial and indignation. Democrat Sen. Mary “Louisiana Purchase” Landrieu defended her payoff while declaring that she “can’t be bought.”Democrat Sen. Tom “Iowa Bounty” Harkin dismissed [...]

Cash for Cloture: Demcare bribe list, Pt. II

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 21, 2009 02:48 AM

Keeping score.

Sneaky Sunday Senate liveblog, open thread; the building backlash against Ben Nelson; Harkin: Do it for Teddy K!; McConnell: “It is not too late” to kill it; Reid: People are dyyyying! “We are reshaping the nation;” cloture motion passes, 60-40

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 20, 2009 10:08 PM

If you are a normal person, today was a day for family, faith, football, and holiday get-togethers.
While you’ve been busy this Sunday before Christmas, the Senate has been hurtling toward a cloture vote on Demcare.
As I noted early this morning, the Senate will proceed to a cloture vote on the Reid-Baucus-Dodd-Harkin amendment at 1:00am [...]

Sunday showdown: The Senate’s Demcare treachery

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 20, 2009 10:03 AM

Sellout Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) got his Cash-for-Cloture Christmas present early: Special Medicaid expansion subsidies for his state ($45 million for starters over the next decade). The budget-strapped governors of every other state in the union ought to be crying foul.
*Update: CBO now says Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback will cost $100 million for Nebraska. Vermont and [...]
