Shape of Days says “the true meaning of Thanksgiving lies in being thankful, no matter to whom or to what:”
Thanksgiving is a national celebration of being thankful. It doesn’t matter to whom or to what you’re thankful. People of faith can choose to be thankful to God. Nonreligious people can be thankful to their families or to their friends or to fate or circumstance or plain dumb luck. It doesn’t matter one bit. The essence of Thanksgiving is a celebration of humility and of gratitude for all that we have. That’s surely a point on which people with faith and people without can come together.
And now, back to my apple crisps…
