War photos that deserve awards
In response to the Pulitzer Prize Board’s award for perfidious war photography, milblogger Blackfive nominates one of his own favorite humorous photos with an embedded message for the press. Hah. On the serious side, here are a few of my nominees:
LA Times photographer Luis Sinco’s famous photo of Marine Lance Cpl. James Blake Miller:

Also check out the rest of Sinco’s breath-taking series of photos taken in Fallujah in a narrated slideshow on the LA Times website. Must-see. Curiously, Sinco was a Pulitzer finalist in the feature photography category for the Miller shot, but the rest of his battle photos of Marines in action did not merit even a finalist mention in the breaking news category.
Another favorite:

Still holding his 9mm Beretta, a seriously injured First Sgt. Brad Kasal is helped from a Fallujah house on Nov. 13, 2004, after killing several Iraqi insurgents and with his own body shielding a fellow Marine from a grenade blast. (Photo by Lucian Read/WorldPictureNews)
Trackback or send in links to your favorites and I’ll post.
Update: Greyhawk at Mudville Gazette is accepting photo entries for the Milblogger Prize and includes a few of his own faves and links to others. Must-see.
