Like it or not, the dispute between Cindy Sheehan and some of her family members is news. According to a Solano County court document unearthed by Dang if I Know, there may be a new development in that rift:

Assuming this report pans out, it will be interesting to see if Cindy Sheehan continues to insist that she and her husband “are on the same side of the fence” with respect to her anti-war activism.

Update: Angry in the Great White North predicts:

If the report is accurate, and if Cindy Sheehan stays true to form, we’ll hear the following:

- Cindy Sheehan will defer comment (reasonable) but when she decides to comment she’ll blame the President in a roundabout way (the … course she’s been forced to take, something like that)

- there will be no reference to previous statements of support and solidarity by Cindy Sheehan, either by Sheehan or by the main stream media

- there will be no comment at all from Patrick Sheehan

- her supporters will post on message boards clear and unambiguous statements supporting Cindy, excoriating Patrick (in the most nasty terms), with the conclusion that both she and the anti-war movement are better off without Patrick or the rest of his family (see the Quatarolo letter)

8/15 Update III, 2:10 pm eastern time: Confirmed. The Smoking Gun has the petition, which cites “irreconcilable differences” and reports that community property includes the family’s home and “any and all benefits payable as a result of son’s death,” including a Prudential insurance policy and “benefits from the U.S. Government.”
