KATRINA: GETTING THINGS DONE II

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 4, 2005 04:57 PM

The Hurricane Katrina Blog for Relief is still on. You have until the end of tomorrow to help out with the event. Current tally:

-$ 731,297 in contributions so far
-1,690 blogs participating
-230 charities recommended

Log your contribution here. See which blogs are raising the most money here and which charities are receiving the most donations here.

If you’ve already given, please dig down and give again. I’d love to see this blog’s readers at least hit the $50,000 mark. Let’s go!

See also TTLB’s web project mailing lists to coordinate efforts by web developers and volunteers looking to provide specific kinds of reliefs to meet specific needs.

Two other charitable resources I want to mention among the myriad private efforts underway:

Michele Catalano’s Kids of Katrina School Supplies Drive, which I mentioned last night, is going full steam ahead.

I just sent my contribution. Send yours now! School’s about to begin and this is the least we can do to help give the Katrina children some small sense of normalcy and belonging and routine.

Via Catalano, I also learned of this site: Where to send goods/supplies. A great resource for those of you who want to cut out the middleman and mail in-kind donations directly to places that are equipped to handle/distribute them. I just phoned the Star of Hope Mission in Houston, Texas, which has been designated as one of the major clothing distribution centers for Katrina families. They are indeed accepting clothing donations by mail, and have a particular need for extra-large clothes for men, women, and children. Diapers and baby clothes also a big need. And shoes.

Send your donations to:

Star of Hope Women and Family Emergency Shelter
419 Dowling St.
Houston TX 77002
Phone: 713-222-2220
