FIRST, THEY CAME FOR THE CARTOONISTS

My column today picks up on the blog campaign to “Buy Danish” in support of the newspaper Jyllands-Posten, its cartoonists, and the country now under fire by radical Islamists around the world for printing the Forbidden Cartoons.
Via Real Clear Politics, Kathleen Parker is on the same wavelength.
Meanwhile, Judith Apter Klinghoffer notes that other papers around the world are reprinting the forbidden cartoons. She’s challenging American MSM outlets to do the same:
Major European Paper such as The Welt and France Soir have also published them. France Soir headline is “Yes, we have the right to caricature God.” Under it a cartoon of Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim and Christian gods floating on a cloud. The caption reads: “Don’t complain, Muhammad, we’ve all been caricatured here.”
I am informed that papers in Iceland, Finland, Italy and Mexico did the same. Send me links please. The media is beginning to understand that it has a dog in the fight for freedom.
Now how long will the American MSM remain behind? How long until it gets it?
Robert Spencer also sends out the call:
Strike a blow for freedom today. If you value freedom of speech and freedom of the press, please — politely and calmly — contact your local newspaper, wherever you are, and ask them to reprint some or all of the cartoons.
Here’s a screen cap of the German Welt newspaper’s article and reprint of one of the forbidden cartoons:

The Times UK reports on four other international papers that have published the cartoons:
The Berliner Zeitung also reprinted two cartoons as part of its coverage of the controversy. Italy’s Corriere della Serra and La Stampa, and
Spain’s Catalan daily El Periodico also published some or all of the images.
Reader Matti L. in Finland e-mails that none of the papers in his country have done so yet.

And several readers e-mail that Norway is getting behind Denmark. Bravo!
