CHECHNYA JOINS THE CARTOON JIHAD
Via Reuters:
Chechnya’s pro-Moscow government on Monday banned Danish humanitarian organisations from the shattered region in response to the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechnya’s acting prime minister, was the latest Muslim leader to condemn the cartoons, which were first printed in a Danish newspaper and have sparked protests throughout the Islamic world.
Looks like there are ulterior motives at play:
“As for Danish organisations which work in Chechnya, then we will no longer let them in because of this,” Kadyrov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.
The Danish Refugee Council has been one of the most prominent groups helping Chechen refugees displaced by the 11-year separatist war in their homeland, but it was not clear how the ban would affect its work.
Some of the groups working with refugees have angered Moscow by accusing police and troops of rights abuses, and many officials have pressed for them to leave.
