**Written by Doug Powers

Not that you would, but if you were paying to attend an event that listed Barbra Streisand as a co-host, wouldn’t you sort of expect Streisand to be at that event — especially if it involved Barack Obama?

From Politico:

Barbra Streisand and Jeffrey Katzenberg were no-shows at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser the two were to co-host Monday night at the Los Angeles home of television producer John Wells.

President Obama spoke at the event, and other co-hosts included Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams.

Did Streisand just forget, or can we chalk her up as yet another disgruntled elitist limo-lib who was all for wildly expensive programs until realizing somebody has to pay for them?

Streisand’s website that often doubles as a comical cry for help provides no explanation. Maybe Barbra was stuck in yesterday’s nightmarish LA traffic jam, which, given the cause, would be sweet irony.

And for any Malibu dupes with more cash than brains who thought they were going to pay $30,400 a couple and actually get to have dinner with Obama, how’s this for a letdown:

According to one source familiar with the plans, about 100 people are expected at the reception and 100 at the dinner. But the source said Obama is not expected to attend the dinner itself, although Pelosi will be there.

Anybody who would pay thirty-grand to watch Nancy Pelosi eat can’t possibly have the ability to understand the size and scope of government waste — hence their misguided endorsements.

It’s been the headline on Drudge all day: Hollyweird is getting ready to fork over millions to save Obama at Beverly Hills meg-million-dollar fundraiser tonight.

Barbra Streisand will sing at a $28,500-per-person gala.

Will she be able to keep it together — or will we see another meltdown?

Memories…
Remember: “Shut the [expletive] up!”

And remember her illiterate and blundering BDS blog posts?

Should be an entertaining tonight if past behavior is any indication.

They can’t help themselves.

She will sing for her savior. And we should cheer. Because it has done wonders for all the other political candidates she has supported. When Barbra croons for you, you can kiss your chances of winning goodbye.

You go, Babs!

Barbra Streisand will be among the headliners at a fund-raiser for Barack Obama on Sept. 16, where she will perform for the presidential candidate at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

The plans for the event were outlined this morning and Streisand confirmed that she would take the stage. The hotel ballroom holds an estimated 700 people.

Obama’s fund-raiser is expected to be his final visit to raise money here before the general election.

Obama will start the evening with a 5 p.m. dinner event for about 250 people at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, the historic estate once owned by the legendary Doheny family. Tickets for the event are $28,500.

Later, he will attend a reception at the Beverly Wilshire, followed by Streisand’s special performance. Tickets for the event are $2,500 per person.

Co-hosts for event include the DreamWorks team of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, as well as political consultant Andy Spahn. It’s also being organized with Obama’s Southern California finance team.

Streisand endorsed Obama after he secured the nomination in June. She had endorsed Hillary Clinton in the primary, and appeared and spoke at a fund-raiser for her in January. She also sang at a concert for John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000.

Just weeks after claiming she would reshape her faltering radio program to focus on a New York City audience, Whoopi Goldberg has now been cancelled even there.

According to press and trade reports today, Wake Up With Whoopi was yanked from WKTU-FM today without warning, other than a brief note sent to staffers mere hours before the change. Poor ratings were cited by the station.

Recently, after similar results led to terminations in Chicago and Philly, your Radio Equalizer speculated that Whoopi’s radio days appeared numbered. Now, one can easily expect the syndicated program to be shut down, perhaps in the next few days.

It was an evening that elicited tears, standing ovations, raucous laughter and shouts of joy from the audience _ and was just in the first few minutes.

Yes, Barbra Streisand’s return to touring after a 12-year absence was the extravaganza that it promised to be. Monday night’s show at Madison Square Garden was the third stop of a 20-city jaunt across the nation _ a virtual lovefest between the ultimate diva and an adoring, sold-out, celebrity-dotted crowd.

Streisand effortlessly crooned through a select repertoire of the hits she’s amassed during her four-decade-plus career. But night’s most riveting moment came during what was perhaps the only unscripted _ and truly uncomfortable _ episode in the three-hour show.

There was Streisand, enduring a smattering of very loud jeers as she and “George Bush” _ a celebrity impersonator _ muddled through a skit that portrayed the president as a bumbling idiot.

Though most of the crowd offered polite applause during the slightly humorous routine, it got a bit too long, especially for a few in the audience who just wanted to hear Streisand sing like she had been doing for the past hour.

“Come on, be polite!” the well-known liberal implored during the sketch as she and “Bush” exchanged zingers. But one heckler wouldn’t let up. And finally, Streisand let him have it.

“Shut the (expletive) up!” Streisand bellowed, drawing wild applause. “Shut up if you can’t take a joke!”

Well, that about sums up the moonbat Left’s response to any criticism, doesn’t it?

Maybe she’ll end up with a guest lecturer position at Columbia University.

Although not all Muslims are terrorists, unfortunately, in today’s world, most of the terrorists are Muslim.

It was Shohreh Aghdashloo, the lovely Iranian actress who plays a controversial role in FOX’s hit TV series, 24. The Council on American-Islamic Relations launched protests over a plot line involving a Muslim family of terrorist sleeper operatives; Aghdashloo plays the mother in the family. Unlike the Islamist sympathizers at CAIR, Aghdashloo is an outspoken critic of fundamentalist Muslim regimes and a proud, assimilated American. From the Boston Herald:

A refugee from the 1979 Iranian Revolution, she is a member of Los Angeles’ thriving Farsi-speaking minority, sometimes called “Tehrangeles.”
Her politics are clear: She doesn’t accept the legitimacy of the present religious regime in Iran.

“When President Bush included Iran in his Axis of Evil group, I don’t believe he was talking about Iran,” she said. “He was talking about the bunch of mercenaries into whose hands our country has fallen.” It has been 25 years since she escaped from Iran after the ayatollahs closed her theater, the Drama Workshop. “In Iran, as it is now, you cannot portray reality on stage, because women must always wear the scarf,” she said…

“My wishes when I came to America were to be a working actress, to act in English and to meet the people on the A-list who would want me for prominent projects.

“If I am typecast, I understand that it is society’s demand. If society demands Middle Easterners in films, I don’t mind being a part of that. At the same time, my identity is not solely Iranian.

“We worked hard from scratch to be a normal American family,” she said. “We have a 16-year-old daughter named Tara Jane, after `Gone With the Wind’ and Jane Austen. She is already a senior in high school.”

Aghdashloo is proud of her American citizenship.

“Henry Miller said that the problem with native people is that they don’t look at the monuments in their own towns. I do. As an immigrant, I appreciate every inch I have gained.

“When I first became a citizen, I was dying to vote, just like Tara. I got to the polling place at 6 a.m. to be certain I could exercise my right, because I was deprived of that right for so long.”

What a breath of fresh air. Wouldn’t you love to see her debate Barbra Streisand, Michael Moore, Al Franken, or any CAIR spokes-apologist?

Aghdashloo’s filmography and TV appearances are here.

Regarding Barbra Streisand’s blog blunder, three quick points:

1) Hasn’t one of her P.C. friends told her yet that it isn’t fashionable to be quoting from correspondence between two dead white slave owners?

2) Couldn’t she at least have given credit to Elizabeth Edwards, who posted the quote as consolation at the Democratic Underground on Nov. 5? (Hat tip: Pundit Guy)

3) Wouldn’t it have helped to have actually read the entire letter
before excerpting it? In Babs’ case, probably not.

Update: Blogosphere’s already having a field day following Drudge’s big link to Streisand’s blog. Here’s a sample:

Intermittent Stream…”If Babs knew a damn thing about America (or, in fact, anything at all) she’d know enough not to invoke one of Jefferson’s fits of temper against Federalism, financial institutions, commerce and the Industrial Revolution to support the view that Democrats just had a bad day and that they really don’t need to structurally reform their party. Don’t worry, just wait and in time the majority will come around to leftist views. Um, right. You know what your problem is Babs? You’re stupid and your agent really ought not allow you to speak.”

Blaster’s Blog…Streisand Dowdifies Jefferson

Nashville Files…Do a little more research before you invoke the founding fathers. You’d find that they were a bunch of right wing wackos compared to today’s conservatives. If you really want to invoke Jefferson, then let’s do that.

Update II: Just a reminder of Babs’ last quotation fiasco in which she cited a bogus Shakespeare passage to bolster her anti-war views and was forced to respond to Drudge’s debunking.
