Senate Dems undermining S-CHIP ID requirements for non-citizens
The open-borders crowd has been pushing to get a piece of the S-CHIP pie for more than a year. House Republicans have flagged the issue repeatedly. The bill is now in the Senate.
CNS reports on Harry Reid’s diffident attitude about the loosened ID standards:
A proposed change to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), [...]

Lame duck surprise: Bush commutes sentences of Compean/Ramos
It’s a shocker from the open-borders Bush administration. The families must be extraordinarily relieved. They’ve been through hell:
On his last full day in office, President Bush commuted the sentences of two former Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a Mexican drug runner in 2005.
The imprisonment of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean had sparked [...]
Buy a house, get citizenship?! Yes, it’s true
A reader sent along a story published in a Bulgarian newspaper about an outrageous-sounding scheme offered to foreigners: Invest in real estate. Win American citizenship. Yes, it’s true. And I’ve told you about it before. More on that in a minute.
From Bulgaria:
Investment in real estate in US guarantees a green card

Good to know some Republicans still care about immigration enforcement
GOP Sen. David Vitter introduced several immigration enforcement measures today. President Bush, no doubt, considers them an affront to “compassionate conservatism and broad-mindedness.”
The Dems won’t let these bills get anywhere, but it’s good to know that some Republicans are at least making a token effort to show they care about border and homeland security:
Vitter Reintroduces [...]
Harry Reid’s shamnesty stand: Senate Bill 9 will tear down the border “wall”
Harry Reid has filed S. 9, the Democrats’ new shamnesty bill. Not much difference in principle between Reid’s bill and McCain-Kennedy-Bush. Disingenuous lip service to immigration enforcement? Check. Path to legalization? Check.
There are a few new nuggets — most notably, open hostility to the Fence in Name Only on our southern border. Quoting from [...]
Heckuva job, Davy!
The southern fence is still a Fence In Name Only.
The state of the borders is unsound.
Rank-and-file agents are in revolt.
Perfect time for George Shamnesty Bush to give a special bonus to the head of the Border Patrol.
Heckuva job, Davy. Via WT’s Jerry Seper:
The Bush administration has awarded a $61,200 bonus to Border Patrol Chief [...]
Asylum fraud tactic: Tell them you’re gay
I’ve reported on many types of asylum fraud over the years (see asylum archives here). This one takes the cake. Via the Seattle Times:
A Kent couple who claimed to be experts in immigration cases advised clients to falsely claim to be gay and subject to persecution or even death if they returned home so they [...]
Bracing for more border disorder
I wrote at the end of my year-end state of the borders column last week that blood-stained reality clarifies the mind.
Two new MSM articles on the increasing chaos on the southern border underscore the point.
The NYTimes weighs in with “Kidnappings in Mexico Send Shivers Across Border.”
Four hooded men smashed in the door to the adobe [...]
A pig-flying moment in Washington state
A Democrat governor is calling for illegal alien criminals to be deported faster. Do my eyes deceive me? Are pigs flying?
It’s true: Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire has proposed a partnership with the feds to finally expedite the illegal alien criminal deportation process through the 287(g) program, which I’ve reported on extensively. (See here for [...]
The state of the borders
The bipartisan civility police told us we weren’t supposed to talk about illegal immigration during the 2008 presidential campaign because open discussion would “alienate” swing (read: Hispanic) voters. Is it okay now or do we only get permission when the next major open-borders disaster strikes? My syndicated column today (see below) surveys the state of [...]
Harkin bails out illegal alien employer
I would think Iowans — and taxpayers across the country — would be rather miffed about Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin’s decision to bail out illegal alien employer Agriprocessors. Reader Scott from Kensett, Iowa, is. He sends this info from the Des Moines Register along this morning:
A controversial Postville meatpacking plant might have been forced out [...]
DHS: Yeah, the world is still a dangerous place

A pardon for an immigration law-breaker
One last open-borders gesture from the shamnesty White House:
A South Texas rancher got a good-news phone call Tuesday about a presidential pardon that wipes away a felony conviction for hiring undocumented workers to harvest his watermelons 16 years ago.
“I really don’t know why or anything,” said John Allen Aregood, of Riviera, a ranching town about [...]
“Homeland Security USA”
Hmmm: ABC turns homeland security into boob-tube entertainment. (Hat tip: ALIPAC) In some ways, you can’t top the true-life farce that lax immigration enforcement has been under the Bush administration. It will be interesting to see how much of the open-borders agenda creeps into this experiment:
Every day the men and women of the Department [...]

More border chaos: U.S. anti-kidnap expert kidnapped in Mexico
Hey, how’s that $1.6 billion American-taxpayer-funded Merida Initiative to control crime and chaos in Mexico working out? Not so well. Not so well.
A bad situation keeps getting worse:
U.S. anti-kidnap expert kidnapped in Mexico
Mexican gunmen have kidnapped a U.S. security consultant who negotiated the release of dozens of kidnap victims in Latin America.
Gunmen abducted [...]
“Our Homeland Security can’t police their own home. How can they police our borders?”

This is what patriotism looks like
A naturalized American from Korea loses his entire family in the military jet crash that wrecked his house and killed his infant daughter, toddler daughter, wife, and mother-in-law. But he refuses to blame the pilot or bash the military. Reader Mitch in San Diego e-mails: “I’m not even religious and I’ll say a prayer for [...]
“Juan, you have no idea how important it is to me for you to be on this campaign”
Adios.
Isn’t it ironic: Mexico lawmakers want to reinstate death penalty; Plus: Mexico cracks down on illegal aliens
In case you hadn’t noticed, Mexico is in chaos. Beheaded and bullet-ridden bodies are turning up left and right along the southern border. Drug traffickers are running rampant in Sinaloa. Corruptocrats are letting gangs take over their cities. In Tijuana, 200 people were killed in a month. The CSM reports: “Last weekend turned into one [...]
