My column today takes on trashy trash-talking Democrat Rep. Lynn Woolsey’s smear of Gen. David Petraeus. The Code Pink/MoveOn Democrats strike again. “Move On” is still stuck in 2007.

Democrat Rep. Lynn Woolsey: Capitol Hill’s Lindsay Lohan
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate
Copyright 2011

A grown woman in public office who acts like Lindsay Lohan has no business comparing one of America’s finest generals to Charlie Sheen. But anti-war Democratic Rep. Lynn Woolsey has never shown any restraint when it comes to trashing America’s military leaders before the world. That’s because being a Code Pink liberal — like being a Hollywood brat — means never having to apologize for your reckless words and deeds.

Woolsey took to the House floor on Wednesday to report on her “Congressional Progressive Caucus Peace and Security Task Force” hearing with critics of the Afghanistan war. She parroted Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings (he’d be labeled an “activist,” of course, if he supported the surge), who said: “Gen. Petraeus is giving us the Charlie Sheen counter-insurgency strategy, which is to give exclusive interviews to every major network, and to keep saying ‘we’re winning’ and hope the public actually agrees with you.”

Woolsey then went on to attack Gen. Petraeus’ “bland and tone-deaf talking points.” She can’t make up her mind. Is he a wild-eyed, Charlie Sheen-esque media beast, or is he a boring bureaucrat lulling America into oblivion?

This much is clear: Woolsey prefers the guerilla girl tactics of Code Pink to Petraeus’ adult straight talk. Heckling government officials, disrupting congressional hearings and breaching Capitol Hill security are the “progressive” means of public discourse about the war.

You may recall that Protest Party Animal Woolsey was the politician who reportedly gave State of the Union tickets to anti-war crasher Cindy Sheehan in 2006 and was part of a pro-Code Pink contingent of Democrats who supported the group’s 2005 inauguration antics — including chanting “Out of Iraq now!” and unfurling “Bring the Troops Home” banners in the middle of President Bush’s speech.

Instead of sober-eyed expert testimony on how U.S. troops are combating the Taliban in Kabul and the northern and western regions of Afghanistan, Woolsey favors Jane Fonda theatrics and bloody hand waving for the paparazzi.

Instead of honest assessments of the difficulties of training an Afghan national security and civilian defense force and waging a long war, Woolsey wants simpleton chants of “No War!” and “Give Peace a Chance!”

In January, the far-left exhibitionist congresswoman blasted the counter-terror efforts in Afghanistan as “an epic failure, a national embarrassment and a moral blight.” Does she know our troops, their families and our enemies are listening?

Nancy Morgan, relative of a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan, spoke for many when she wrote an open rejoinder to Woolsey: “Spitting on the graves of those who have died in their nation’s service is just one of the rights secured to Ms. Woolsey by the blood and sweat of others,” Morgan noted. “A free press is another right. This would be the same press that has maintained a deafening silence about this war ever since it became Obama’s war — the same press that reports Ms. Woolsey’s inane pronouncements without offering vital context.”

“Though Ms. Woolsey makes ten times the money my nephew does, he is the one who does the heavy lifting. He is the one on the front line, braving Taliban bullets and following orders. Ms. Woolsey, on the other hand, spends her time, along with fellow Democrats, improvising insane rules of engagement which make my nephew’s job much more dangerous. She is also busy ensuring that terrorists are given the same rights as the Americans they are so intent on killing.”

The Code Pink/Move On Democrats’ strategy of smearing Gen. Petraeus (“General Betray-US“) backfired miserably in 2007 — so much so that surge opponent Barack Obama rode to electoral victory after flip-flopping on the issue on the campaign trail, picked a Democratic vice presidential running mate who claimed credit for the surge after proclaiming its failure, and then finally adopted the very winning surge tactics he once attacked as fatally doomed.

So: Whose frenzied, media-pandering strategy looks more like Charlie Sheen’s?

Not long after the 2004 elections, Move On co-founder Eli Pariser famously said of Democrats, “Now it’s our party. We bought it, we own it, and we’re going to take it back.” The failure of “mainstream” Democrats to rebuke troop morale-undermining Woolsey shows that the left never gave up its ownership in the first place. Party on.

Code Pink's Shellish ordeal

**Written by Doug Powers

This is even better than the time Alan Grayson got saved by military contractors.

Big Peace sets the stage:

Two women who traveled from Portland, Oregon to Cairo last week to participate in Code Pink’s latest Hamas-aid trip to Gaza ended up getting rescued by a big oil company–the kind Code Pink usually protests as killing the planet, when the leftist group isn’t hobnobbing with terrorists and undermining U.S. allies like Egypt.

This happened sometime at the end of January. The Oregonian has more details:

But Boyd, 55, was on a mission. With a girlfriend from Seattle, she planned to meet up in Cairo with members of Code Pink, a U.S.-based peace group, and then travel to Gaza to support Palestinian rights.
[...]
“My anxiety was getting out of control,” Boyd said. “It was so packed — a smash of humanity. You could feel all the tension, with all these people trying to get out of Egypt.”

They found a group of other Westerners and stayed with them. Turned out they were a group of Shell Oil employees who had chartered a flight out of Egypt.

In the end, the two women left Cairo on that flight to Amsterdam.

“We were treated like royalty,” Boyd said.

Shell put the two women up in a hotel in the Netherlands, where they plan to stay until Wednesday when they have a flight home.

They gladly accepted the help? So much for the courage of their convictions.

No doubt these two whiffle-brained irony magnets will be quickly reimbursing Shell because they’ll never be able to sleep at night knowing they’ve accepted blood money and favors from an evil oil company… right?

A couple of choice Code Pink oil protest photos are at this link. Warning: What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Hot Air Pundit identified her as a member of Code Pink, but all I know is that she looks just about the right size to plug the hole with:

If you’re wondering how Code Pink manages to gain entrance to House hearings, Henry Waxman allows it in an often futile attempt to see to it that he’s not the ugliest person in the room.

Hard to tell, but the Pinksquatch from the video above looks a little like a wildly over-fed version of the Code Pink arfer who, if facial expressions are any indicator, almost succeeded in getting Condoleezza Rice to punch her in 2007:

I heard one of the funniest April Fools’ jokes yesterday: It was career Democrat demagogue Maxine Waters moaning about the “loud” and “vulgar” voices of the Tea Party movement.

You can watch the video here. Haw, it’s a snort-inducer.

In case you need a reminder about Waters’ history as one of the loudest, most vulgar voices in the House, read my retrospective here.

Waters repeats the tale of Emanuel Cleaver’s spitting incident — which, um, Emanuel Cleaver refuses to tell himself.

As for the laughable claim that Democrats never encouraged the Code Pink mob, reality check:

2005 – Democrats gave disruptive Code Pinkos tickets to Bush inauguration

2006 – Shame on Lynn Woolsey

***

Update: More on Waters’ demagoguery.

And Waters incites the anti-war mob, via NakedEmperorNews — “Riot is the voice of the unheard.”

They’re baaaaaack in full force. The speech-stifling, original angry mob of Code Pinkos shouted down Karl Rove during a book tour event in Beverly Hills tonight — forcing him to cut his remarks short and leave before attendees could get their books signed. Code Pink co-founder/terror-coddler/Obama funder Jodie Evans pulled her old “citizens’ arrest” prank and stormed right up to Rove with handcuffs. She and other members tried to incite the crowd with shouts of “war criminal.”

Click on the image for full video from CBS 2:

The Code Pink mobsters have been waging these in-your-face attacks for years without so much as a peep of outrage from the selective NYTimes/MSNBC/Democrat civility police. See, for example:

October 2008…

April 2008:

Soaking up the intolerance of their elders, UCSB students last month chased and hounded Rove out of campus after a speaking event:

Given how regularly conservative authors are tomato-ed, salad dressing-ed, pied and physically intimidated at speaking events, what’s shocking is not the Code Pinkos’ behavior or the silence of the liberal civility police, but the utter lack of preparation and security by the organizers of the Rove event as demonstrated in the CBS 2 video. As Dave Bryan reported:

KCAL 9′s Dave Bryan was there and said Rove “was shouted down and forced to leave the stage.”

Another woman screamed at Rove, “The only comfort I take is that…you’re going to rot in hell.”

Rove, meanwhile, charged that the people shouting him down were an example of the “totalitarianism of the left…they don’t believe in dialog…they don’t believe in courtesy. They don’t believe in first Amendment rights for anyone but themselves.”

There were several heated exchanges between Rove and his critics before he decided he had enough and he left the stage.

He called one detractor a “lunatic.” He told several others repeatedly to “get the heck out of here.”

Bryan reported that security was apparently lacking and Rove was “left to fend for himself.”

What the hell? Rove is not being served well.

Having cut and run from their unsuccessful drive to evict the Marines from Berkeley, Code Pink is setting its sights on a new evil:

The Berkeley Library!

Seems the library wants to do business with 3M, but the Pinkos protest that it will violate the city’s nuclear-free law.

Bay Area blogger/photojournalist ProtestShooter forwarded me a miffed missive from the Pinkos about the spat:

Code Pink’s very upset about it and forwarded it around. The key bit is that the Berkeley Public Library wants a waiver to get around the Berkeley Nuclear Free Zone laws (because they can’t do business with 3M otherwise).

It’s amusing in its own way…

Hi Berkeley People!

Who would ever have believed that this law that has been on the City of Berkeley books for 22 years in our town is now in jeopardy! Not only that but it[']s because of our beloved Berkeley Public Library! This is a situation that would make Kafka, himself, shudder!

The present dilemma starts with the Radio Frequency Identification D’s (RFID)-these are the chips now in all library books to track them AND you when you carry said book. They were purchased from the company, “Checkpoint” who then turned the (expired) contract over to 3M.

Since 3M is a manufacturer of munitions and depleted uranium with connections to Honeywell and Boeing, it is against the law for Berkeley to do business with them because of the Nuclear Free Status Law.

That’s why the library is requesting Berkeley to institute a 2 year waiver to rescind our Nuclear Free Status.

This waiver, which is now before the Berk. Peace & Justice Commission of the Berkeley City Council, could allow nuclear material to be transported through our town. In Berkeley we also have an important reputation as a peace city-this obviously would be in tatters.

The library doesn’t want to go to a bar-code system; it’s easier for them to keep the status quo even though the cost is $70,000/year to maintain this invasive of privacy system that also requires the waiver of the above mentioned law.

The Nuclear Free Law is more relevant now than ever!

PLEASE call/write your council person to take action on this matter. The Peace & Justice Comm has tabled the issue until its next meting in Jan. as no decision could be made at the Dec 1 meeting.

I believe the next meeting will be on Jan 5th. 2009.

Yes, indeed, Berzerkely is always “amusing in its own way.”

Pushback on Code Pinkos.

Well, it’s about damned time. The Berkeley City Council surrenders to the nationwide backlash (and perhaps to liability concerns) and reportedly drops its preferential treatment policy of providing free parking to anti-war agitators Code Pink, who’ve been working tirelessly to boot the Marines out of the moonbat enclave.

Zombie’s got a new photo essay of the Marine recruiting center protest and counterprotest this weekend–attended by several hundred bikers and other pro-troops supporters.

Melanie Morgan blogged from the scene.

The SFGate reports:

No arrests were made, but one member of World Can’t Wait, an organization that seeks President Bush’s ouster, was briefly detained by police for using an electric bullhorn – his organization had not obtained a city permit allowing amplified sound.

“There was a lot of verbal energy,” said Kusmiss.

In one brief vocal flareup, an anti-war demonstrator muttered at a group of bikers, “Why don’t you go to war?”

“I did 20 years so you can say what you’re saying,” replied Jim Dunn, 45, of Monterey, who served for two decades as a Navy hospital corpsman. He belongs to the American Legion Riders, a national organization of motorcycle enthusiasts that supports the military and raises funds for veterans’ homes and children’s hospitals. He attended the rally with his girlfriend, Karen Sakais, a retired water quality inspector.

“This country is based on freedom,” she said. “I recognize and respect everyone’s right to protest. I’m here to support our troops – they are our sons and our daughters.”

The counterinsurgency continues…and don’t forget: From The Frontlines keeps the ball rolling on June 26. Be there!

Counterinsurgency progress.

My friend and partner in the upcoming “From the Frontlines” web-a-thon (June 26–mark the date!) Melanie Morgan sends word that the Berkeley anti-troop protests at the city’s Marine recruiting center are shrinking.

Time to call out those moonbat witches again:

It’s so calm at the once-embattled United States Marine Corps recruiting center in Berkeley that a group of enlisted men and women were able to have a pizza party inside Tuesday afternoon.
And they didn’t have to wade through throngs of screaming protesters to get into their downtown office.

“The interest in the (Marine recruiting center) has waned. (The protesters) have been pretty well-behaved lately,” said police spokesman Officer Andrew Frankel.

A handful of Code Pink protesters were in front of the center at 64 Shattuck Square May 21 — their usual day of the week — but the turnout was extremely light compared with recent months when hundreds came out weekly to protest the military enlistment site.

“Protests at the Marine recruiting station have been calm lately,” said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates. “Berkeley remains firmly opposed to the Iraq war and we respect people’s right to free speech. We appreciate that the protests have been peaceful and less disruptive to the local businesses that are trying to survive in these difficult economic times.”

The show is far from over, though. The counterinsurgency continues:

While there is somewhat of a lull now, things could heat up as spring turns to summer. Eagles Up organizer Doug Lyvere said at least 500, possibly 700, motorcycle riders plan to converge on the center after 10 a.m. June 21.

“It’s another troop-support mission,” he said.

In March, about 400 motorcyclists participated in a pro-military rally at the Marine center after reportedly spending $25,000 to $30,000 in neighboring cities to penalize Berkeley financially for its anti-military stance.
What’s more, Melanie Morgan of Move America Forward said her group is working to send 50,000 care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We are so tired of the negative media generated by Code Pink that Move America Forward is dedicating itself to a historic, cutting-edge concept where we are going to try to bring the largest amount of care packages in American history to the troops,” Morgan said. “We are putting our energy into some positive, proactive affirmation for the men and women who are serving our country instead of dealing with the people who clearly despise our troops and their mission.”

Moonhildas and ghouls. Plus: An embarrassed pagan disavows the Pinkos.

Updating yesterday’s post: The witchy women of Code Pink were true to their word. They turned out in Berkeley today to cast their anti-war spells in front of the Marine recruitment center.

My good friends at Move America Forward showed up to sprinkle salt as an antidote.

Har:

Members of the anti-war group Code Pink gathered Friday with a cauldron of flowers outside a controversial Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Berkeley, Calif., to use witchcraft to rally against the Iraq war.

Code Pink members unfurled a pink banner reading “Troops Home Now” and waved signs as they began the protest, which they promised would include incantations and pointy hats for a “witches, crones and sirens” day.

“Women are coming to cast spells and do rituals and to impart wisdom to figure out how we’re going to end war,” Zanne Sam Joi of Bay Area Code Pink told FOXNews.com.

A few women stood outside the recruiting center Friday with signs that read “Peace” and “Warmongers — Eating Our Children for Profit.” Many wore pink T-shirts.

Others pulled out a cauldron filled with flowers from a car draped with a pink sheet.

Members of the pro-troops group Move Forward America came armed with packages of salt, which they spread around the recruiting station to keep the Marines safe from spells. The group’s Web site implored members to bring brooms to “mock the anti-American witches of Code Pink.”

FoxNews has a 24/7 “Protest Cam” that streams live video from outside the Berkeley Marine recruiting station.

There are still a few stray Moonhildas milling about:

***

Also received an e-mail from reader Chris F., an embarrassed pagan and veteran:

Michelle,

I’m a pagan, and a witch. I’m also a 12 year veteran of the US Armed Forces, a proud United States CITIZEN for many generations, and above all intelligent.

These Code Twit girls are so full of it, it’s ridiculous. I’m half tempted to sue them for religious slander and a hate crime against pagans for acting like such idiots.

Just so you know (and could you please pass this along to all your readers) there are hundreds, if not thousands of pagans in the military. On my ship alone we had over 30. Frankly, everyone I know would take serious offense to this idiots at Berkley, both for disgracing witchcraft, and for disgracing the military by their presence.

Unfortunately, those same offended people, myself included, would gladly fight and die to defend their free speech rights to be morons, even though they wouldn’t appreciate that fact, of course.

Just thought I’d share.

It’s true. The nutballs of Code Pink have turned to witchcraft to wage their battle against the military recruiting center in Berkeley. Catherine Moy at Move America Forward first reported the new moonbat technique:

The radical anti-military group, Code Pink, finally shows the world what its membership is made of: witches and crones. Seriously. This week, Code Pink is holding a series of events and street theater to get themselves some more notoriety. You’d think it would be enough that they have attacked the Marine recruiting center and traveled the world coddling dictators and handing out money to terrorists’ families. But nooooooo!!!!

The witches of Code Pink plan to gather at their usual place of harassment, the Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Berkeley, and cast some spells to chase the recruiters away. From Code Pink’s Website:

“Friday, May 9th: Witches, Crones, Sirens: perform rituals of leaving, cast a spell of peace and love over the station, rendering nil the recruiting of our youth to become fodder for this occupation of Iraq.”

Moonbats howling at the moon.

Par for the course in Berzerkeley.

From the Fox News story on the Code Pink coven:

Capt. John Paul Wheatcroft said he’s unfazed by Code Pink’s antics.

“They’re always in pink and wear funny things, half-shaved heads, one side with hair and the other one bald, yeah, I’m pretty much used to anything,” he told FOXNews.com.

How about the Eagles’ “Witchy Women” to help set the mood?

This is good. I was hoping someone would step up and do it. The Berkeley College Republicans are applying to the city council for a protest permit that would confer the same privileges that Code Pink has received. Via the Daily Cal:

The Berkeley College Republicans are looking to get the same permit privileges that anti-war group Code Pink use to protest outside the Marine recruiting center in Downtown Berkeley.

Working with Councilmember Kriss Worthington, the group is asking for sound waiver permits and a parking spot reservation outside the center on Wednesdays from 12 to 4 p.m., the same time Code Pink protests outside the center, said Kimberly Wagner, activism chair for the Berkeley College Republicans.

“(Code Pink’s) claim is that they’re protecting free speech,” she said. “I kind of don’t feel they are, they are inhibiting the recruitment center in general. It’s important that they are not unopposed, that there are people willing to fight them. Even though it’s Berkeley, the liberal center of America, there will be people (opposed).”

Worthington is working to have the item appear on an agenda in May.

The CRs also are circulating a petition for a protected zone around the Marine recruiting center. Funny enough, the same libs who probably have no problem with speech-free zones around abortion clinics are balking at applying the idea to recruiting centers.

Worthington said what the petition called for was “unconstitutional” and that it would not be well-received by the City Council and members of the public.

“I think anywhere in Berkeley you try to create a one mile zone of prohibiting protest, you would get more people protesting on the ban on protesting than you ever get of the original cause,” he said.

Bubble zones for thee, but not for me, eh, Berkeley?
