Van Jones, President Obama’s disgraced green jobs czar, is back with a radical progressive plan to rescue America … from his old boss.

The problem, posits Jones, is that his fellow community organizer in the White House hasn’t spent enough, regulated enough or taxed enough to achieve their perverse version of the “American Dream.” What the country needs to “get the economy back on track,” according to Jones and his league of leftists, is more government-created make-work. Oh, and a hefty side of Big Labor pork.

Jones recently teamed up with George Soros-funded retread MoveOn.org, Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, the AFL-CIO and Service Employees International Union to launch a “Rebuild the Dream” movement. Borrowing a yellowed page from has-been GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Jones and Company this week released their own “contract” to solve the “jobs crisis.” The top two agenda items in this not-so-new contract echo Obama’s longstanding calls for: 1) multibillion-dollar “investments” in America’s infrastructure (see my column last week on the White House’s renewed push for a government-supported infrastructure bank) and 2) “21st-century energy jobs” (which Obama claims he is creating this week by forcing tightened fuel efficiency standards down automakers’ throats).

The supposedly visionary document is a carbon copy of standard Democratic talking points. It’s the same old, same old with a dash of Jones’ swagger on top for flavor.

Jones’ Contract for the American Dream laments: “Our workers are sitting idle, while the work of rebuilding America goes undone.” Obama issued the same lament last September: “It doesn’t do anybody any good when so many hardworking Americans have been idled for months, even years, at a time when there is so much of America that needs rebuilding.”

But the AFL-CIO and SEIU bigwigs to whom both Jones and Obama are beholden stubbornly oppose putting a vast population of hardworking, nonunion Americans back to work. Keep in mind: Through anti-competitive “project labor agreements” enforced by White House executive order, private contractors bidding on public infrastructure projects are required to hand over exclusive bargaining control; to pay inflated, above-market wages and benefits; and to fork over dues money and pension funding to corrupt, cash-starved labor organizations. These PLAs undermine a fair bidding process on projects that locked-out, nonunion laborers are funding with their own tax dollars. And they benefit the privileged few at the expense of the vast majority: In the construction industry, 85 percent of the workforce is nonunion by choice.

And remember this: While Jones and his union pals talk a lofty game about protecting American workers and creating American jobs, they march in lockstep with the open-borders lobby and promoters of another blanket illegal alien amnesty. The SEIU, one of Jones’ most powerful Contract for the American Dream co-sponsors, continues to push for the DREAM Act illegal alien student bailout, opposes enforcement of employer sanctions and brazenly recruits illegal alien workers/voters to its ranks.

As for the green jobs racket, gobs of Obama money has already been spent on them — and unemployment has continued to hover near double digits. Jones’ pipe dream jobs would be better dubbed “brown jobs” to reflect the color of the sewer down which untold millions have been flushed in the name of environmental stimulus salvation. There’s also a distinctly blue tint to these supposedly eco-friendly green jobs. Blue, that is, for partisan Democratic agendas and allies. Federal green jobs funds have subsidized, among others, the SEIU’s nationalized health care activists in Maryland, the UAW Labor Employment and Training Corporation, the Blue Green Alliance (a union conglomerate), the 1199 SEIU Family of Funds and a United Steelworkers front group, the Institute for Career Development.

The Contract for the American Dream is a contract for continued wealth redistribution from taxpayers to Democratic special interests from a failed prophet of green jobs boondogglery. Sound familiar? Van Jones may have left Washington, but his spirit, alas, is alive and well in his mentor’s nightmare policies.

“Millionaires and billionaires,” President Obama says derisively, must make more “sacrifices” and live by the same rules the rest of America lives by. But there are seven little words that will never appear on the White House teleprompter: “And that means you, too, George Soros.”

For all his (and his wife’s) bashing of greedy Wall Street hedge-fund managers, Obama has shown nothing but love to the world’s most famous hedge-fund mogul. The feeling is mutual and deep(-pocketed).

Soros and his family shelled out $250,000 for Obama’s inauguration, $60,000 in direct campaign contributions and untold millions more to liberal activist groups pushing the White House agenda. While the class warrior-in-chief assails conniving financiers who exploit loopholes and corporate titans who imperil the planet, he lets the Soros exemptions to his attack-the-rich rules slide like butter on a hot plate.

This week, for example, Soros announced he was “quitting” the hedge-fund industry. The headlines emphasized his decision to return about $750 million to outside investors (a drop in his $30 billion bucket of personal wealth). He’s reconstituting the business that landed him on Forbes magazine’s “wealthiest people” list as a “family” interest. But the move has “self-serving politics” written all over it.

Over the past year, Soros provided coveted support for Obama and the Democrats’ Byzantine financial “reforms” under the sweeping Dodd-Frank law. He preached to financial publications around the world about the need for increased regulatory controls over his industry. And in November 2008, while paying obligatory lip service to concerns about going too far, he submitted a statement to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that recommended: “The entire regulatory framework needs to be reconsidered, and hedge funds need to be regulated within that framework.”

Frameworks for thee, but not for he, however.

Under Title IV of Dodd-Frank, hedge funds were required to abide by new registration and reporting requirements in an attempt to better police systemic risk (not that the feckless Securities and Exchange Commission has ever been able to fulfill that mission). To evade the regulations, Soros and other firms have used a recently passed rule allowing so-called family offices to shield themselves from both registration and disclosure rules that would have subjected Soros Inc. to a new “Financial Stability Oversight Council.”

Somehow, in touting its one-year anniversary last week, there was nary a peep about the myriad loopholes and de facto waivers being granted to Obama’s powerful benefactors whose names start with “S” and end in “-oros.”

GOP Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama called Soros’ hypocrisy out, telling Reuters this week: “It appears that Mr. Soros talked up financial reform only to sell it short. Don’t be surprised to see his fellow Wall Street financiers follow suit.”

This comes on top of the Obama administration’s $2 billion offering in 2009 to Brazilian state-owned offshore oil-drilling company Petrobras — in which Soros and his management company own an $811 million stake.

Offshore drilling for they, but not for the rest of the USA. Membership in the self-exempting progressive billionaires’ club has its privileges.

My column today takes on trashy trash-talking Democrat Rep. Lynn Woolsey’s smear of Gen. David Petraeus. The Code Pink/MoveOn Democrats strike again. “Move On” is still stuck in 2007.

Democrat Rep. Lynn Woolsey: Capitol Hill’s Lindsay Lohan
by Michelle Malkin

A grown woman in public office who acts like Lindsay Lohan has no business comparing one of America’s finest generals to Charlie Sheen. But anti-war Democratic Rep. Lynn Woolsey has never shown any restraint when it comes to trashing America’s military leaders before the world. That’s because being a Code Pink liberal — like being a Hollywood brat — means never having to apologize for your reckless words and deeds.

Woolsey took to the House floor on Wednesday to report on her “Congressional Progressive Caucus Peace and Security Task Force” hearing with critics of the Afghanistan war. She parroted Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings (he’d be labeled an “activist,” of course, if he supported the surge), who said: “Gen. Petraeus is giving us the Charlie Sheen counter-insurgency strategy, which is to give exclusive interviews to every major network, and to keep saying ‘we’re winning’ and hope the public actually agrees with you.”

Woolsey then went on to attack Gen. Petraeus’ “bland and tone-deaf talking points.” She can’t make up her mind. Is he a wild-eyed, Charlie Sheen-esque media beast, or is he a boring bureaucrat lulling America into oblivion?

This much is clear: Woolsey prefers the guerilla girl tactics of Code Pink to Petraeus’ adult straight talk. Heckling government officials, disrupting congressional hearings and breaching Capitol Hill security are the “progressive” means of public discourse about the war.

You may recall that Protest Party Animal Woolsey was the politician who reportedly gave State of the Union tickets to anti-war crasher Cindy Sheehan in 2006 and was part of a pro-Code Pink contingent of Democrats who supported the group’s 2005 inauguration antics — including chanting “Out of Iraq now!” and unfurling “Bring the Troops Home” banners in the middle of President Bush’s speech.

Instead of sober-eyed expert testimony on how U.S. troops are combating the Taliban in Kabul and the northern and western regions of Afghanistan, Woolsey favors Jane Fonda theatrics and bloody hand waving for the paparazzi.

Instead of honest assessments of the difficulties of training an Afghan national security and civilian defense force and waging a long war, Woolsey wants simpleton chants of “No War!” and “Give Peace a Chance!”

In January, the far-left exhibitionist congresswoman blasted the counter-terror efforts in Afghanistan as “an epic failure, a national embarrassment and a moral blight.” Does she know our troops, their families and our enemies are listening?

Nancy Morgan, relative of a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan, spoke for many when she wrote an open rejoinder to Woolsey: “Spitting on the graves of those who have died in their nation’s service is just one of the rights secured to Ms. Woolsey by the blood and sweat of others,” Morgan noted. “A free press is another right. This would be the same press that has maintained a deafening silence about this war ever since it became Obama’s war — the same press that reports Ms. Woolsey’s inane pronouncements without offering vital context.”

“Though Ms. Woolsey makes ten times the money my nephew does, he is the one who does the heavy lifting. He is the one on the front line, braving Taliban bullets and following orders. Ms. Woolsey, on the other hand, spends her time, along with fellow Democrats, improvising insane rules of engagement which make my nephew’s job much more dangerous. She is also busy ensuring that terrorists are given the same rights as the Americans they are so intent on killing.”

The Code Pink/Move On Democrats’ strategy of smearing Gen. Petraeus (“General Betray-US“) backfired miserably in 2007 — so much so that surge opponent Barack Obama rode to electoral victory after flip-flopping on the issue on the campaign trail, picked a Democratic vice presidential running mate who claimed credit for the surge after proclaiming its failure, and then finally adopted the very winning surge tactics he once attacked as fatally doomed.

So: Whose frenzied, media-pandering strategy looks more like Charlie Sheen’s?

Not long after the 2004 elections, Move On co-founder Eli Pariser famously said of Democrats, “Now it’s our party. We bought it, we own it, and we’re going to take it back.” The failure of “mainstream” Democrats to rebuke troop morale-undermining Woolsey shows that the left never gave up its ownership in the first place. Party on.

Earlier this week, I noted George Soros’s $100 million contribution to open-borders, anti-Israel, anti-U.S. Human Rights Watch.

Guess what he is up to now?

Prepare yourselves for a $45 million, Soros-driven drive to undermine America’s independent judiciary.

The American Justice Partnership revealed the details today:

Over the past 10 years, a highly-coordinated, well-funded campaign has been underway to fundamentally alter the composition of America’s state courts. The campaign’s goal: exclude conservative, rule-of-law judges from the bench. This campaign has been bankrolled by George Soros, a hedge fund operator with a net worth of $13 billion, according to the Forbes 400 list of the world’s richest people.

This multi-million dollar campaign to reshape our courts encompasses efforts to revise state constitutions, rewrite judicial recusal rules, abolish democratic judicial elections, and impose a judicial selection system that will transfer power from the people to a small, unelected and unaccountable commission comprised primarily of legal elites, typically representing powerful special interest groups, such as state trial lawyers associations.

We cannot take this lying down. Your right to vote is at stake.

Read the AJP’s full investigative report here. Background here. And more from Colleen Pero on how the progressives are masking their social justice radicalism under the guise of “merit selection:”

Under “merit selection,” the power to select judges is transferred from the people to a small, unelected, unaccountable commission comprised primarily of legal elites, typically including representatives of powerful special interest groups, such as state trial lawyers associations—whose politics, not surprisingly, are more liberal than the general public.

Promoted as a method to keep “politics” out of the judicial selection process, the merit committees in many states are extremely politicized and have fueled several high-profile political controversies in the past few years. Such confrontations have prompted scholars to question whether the merit selection system serves any of its stated purposes.

Nevertheless, proponents of merit selection have continued their campaign unabated. Indeed, the campaign now uses the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission—a decision that allows corporations and unions to make independent expenditures related to federal races but does not permit corporations or unions to make direct contributions to candidates—as its rallying cry, arguing that the decision will precipitate a “flood of money” into state judicial races.

Backroom Political Deals

Ironically, the same opponents of judicial elections who loudly protest about contributions negatively affecting the independence of the judiciary—a claim for which they have yet to provide any concrete evidence—are receiving and spending tens of millions of dollars to not merely influence judicial elections but eliminate them and turn judicial selection over to special interests and backroom political deals. This does not remove politics from the process but rather moves politics outside of public view.

The well-funded proponents of so-called merit selection engage in a kind of political self-dealing, promoting selection by interest groups who are more closely aligned to their liberal agenda. Those who are concerned about the influence of money in judicial elections should pay more attention to the money spent by those seeking to use “merit” selection not to eliminate politics but to embed interest group politics formally into the selection process, thereby tilting judicial selection in their political favor.

Stay informed.

Transnationalist billionaire George Soros is spreading his left-wing wealth across the globe. The NYTimes reports a record Soros donation to Human Rights Watch:

George Soros, the billionaire investor and philanthropist, plans to announce on Tuesday that he is giving $100 million to Human Rights Watch to expand the organization’s work globally.

It is the largest gift he has made, the largest gift by far that Human Rights Watch has ever received, and only the second gift of $100 million or more made by an individual this year, according to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

…Human Rights Watch will use the gift to add about 120 staff members to its team of 300 around the world, expand translation of its reports and open new offices. The intent, said Kenneth Roth, the advocacy group’s executive director, is to increase its influence in emerging power centers. The group, which is based in New York, investigates and draws attention to human rights abuses around the world.

Mr. Roth said that South Africa had more sway in Zimbabwe than the United States and other Western powers. Similarly, India, China and Japan are more influential in Sri Lanka. “We need to try to generate pressure on those governments, those emerging powers, now, which means expanding our capacity to deploy our information,” Mr. Roth said.

Mr. Soros put it differently. “I’m afraid the United States has lost the moral high ground under the Bush administration, but the principles that Human Rights Watch promotes have not lost their universal applicability,” he said. “So to be more effective, I think the organization has to be seen as more international, less an American organization.”

The anti-Israel bias of HRW is so brazen that liberal lawyer Alan Dershowitz took to the blogosphere to denounce it:

“Who will guard the guardians?” asked Roman satirist Juvenal. Now we must ask, who is watching Human Rights Watch, one of the world’s best-financed and most influential human rights organizations? It turns out that they cook the books about facts, cheat on interviews, and put out pre-determined conclusions that are driven more by their ideology than by evidence. These are serious accusations, and they are demonstrably true.

…Many former supporters of Human Rights Watch have become alienated from the organization, because of, in the words of one early supporter, “their obsessive focus on Israel.” Within the last month, virtually every component of the organized Jewish community, from secular to religious, liberal to conservative, has condemned Human Rights Watch for its bias. [HRW head Kenneth] Roth and his organizations willful blindness when it comes to Israel and its enemies have completely undermined the credibility of a once important human rights organization. Human Rights Watch no longer deserves the support of real human rights advocates. Nor should its so-called reporting be credited by objective news organizations.

Closer to home, HRW has spearheaded attacks on Arizona’s immigration enforcement policies, pushed for closure of Gitmo, and is crusading for civilian trials of Gitmo detainees on American soil.

Now, HRW will reap the benefits of Soros’s very good crisis. Recovery Summer indeed.

[MM note: excerpt of Ezra Levant column redacted.]

Update: FYI, Sun Media and Levant have retracted the above-referenced column after threat of a lawsuit by Soros.

Update, September 28, 2010: The original version of this post excerpted an Ezra Levant column that contained false statements about Soros. When Sun Media later retracted Levant’s column, I immediately updated this post, noting the retraction. (See above.) Today I received a letter from Soros’ legal counsel requesting that I remove the excerpt of Levant’s article. In accordance with his request, I have done so.

Who’s there?

In another business-as-usual Friday night document dump, the White House released logs on 110 White House visitors and trumpeted “transparency like you’ve never seen before.”

The self-congratulatory announcement conveniently omits that Obama originally blocked the logs’ release and only disclosed them under threat of lawsuit.

Also, this “unprecedented” disclosure is severely limited:

Most of the visitors from Inauguration Day to September will never be released by the White House under this voluntary disclosure — unless the public can guess their names. The White House policy doesn’t allow members of the public or press to ask for “everyone who visited health czar Nancy-Ann DeParle,” or everyone who visited on May 4, or everyone from the American Medical Association. Only individual names can be checked.

The list released at 4:30 p.m. Friday includes just about 110 names with 481 visits. Those names were among those requested by members of the public so far, for visits during the period from Inauguration Day through July. (That’s why we know of visits by the wrong Bill Ayers, the wrong Angela Davis, etc., but we don’t know of visits by countless unnamed lobbyists.) Members of the public who used the White House online form to check names did not receive a personal reply indicating whether or not the request was received, or whether the name appeared on the list, so the system provides no feedback…A request for the complete records of all visitors from the first months of the administration, filed by msnbc.com, was rejected by the White House, and an appeal is pending. The news organization requested the names of all visitors to the Obama White House beginning with Inauguration Day. Msnbc.com has filed an administrative appeal with the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Secret Service.

Let’s dive into the data dump.

*ANDY STERN. If you’ve been following my reporting and Culture of Corruption work on Obama’s special friends at the SEIU, you won’t be surprised to learn that one of the most frequent visitor knocking on Barry’s door over the past several months was…SEIU president Andy Stern.

They really just need to set up a cot for him at 1600 Pennsylvania. Stern clocked in with 22 visits, including seven with the president, one with the vice president, and meetings with Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Biden chief of staff Ron Klain, OMB director Peter Orszag, health czar aide Jennifer Cannistra, and Valerie Jarrett’s high-powered aide and Chicago fund-raiser Tina Tchen.

As I’ve noted from Day One, Big Labor’s investment in Obama has paid off mightily.

*GEORGE SOROS. And let there be no doubt that other far Left kingpins have easy access to this White House. Billionaire George Soros dropped in on David Lipton, Obama’s special assistant for international economic affairs and a longtime Treasury bureaucrat in past Democrat administrations whose contact with Soros goes back to at least 1998.

Soros visited Lipton on February 25, just a few days after he made international headlines for statements at Columbia University about the global financial collapse, and again on March 25, the day he was quoted around the world gloating about “having a very good crisis.”

Soros also met with National Economic Council director Larry Summers and Valerie Jarrett’s gal Tina Tchen.

Inquiring minds want to know: Did Petrobras come up?

*JEFFREY IMMELT. GE chairman Jeffrey Immelt popped in for meetings with OMB director Peter Orszag and economic adviser Austan Goolsbee. Immelt serves on Obama’s economic advisory board. He also promoted smart grid programs at the White House — and then turned around at touted them on GE’s broadcast subsidiaries at NBC, CNBC and MSNBC. The perks of a left-wing corporate “news” empire.

*RACE HUSTLERS. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson checked in for various events ranging from poetry readings to congressional luaus to education and SCOTUS meetings, but “Malik H. Shabazz” in the visitor log is not the same Malik Zulu Shabazz who heads up the thug racketeers at the New Black Panther Party.

*HEALTH CARE LOBBYISTS. While far Left groups harass and demonize evil health insurance lobbyists, they’re more than welcome at the White House. UnitedHealth lobbyist Steve Elmendorf is listed five times and Alston & Bird “resource” (the kinder, gentler euphemism for lobbyist) Tom Daschle is listed 11 times.

*PAUL KRUGMAN. The NYT columnist spent two hours with Obama on April 27. Gen. McChrystal got 30 minutes.

*PHILIP GARA LAMARCHE. Another far Leftist philanthropist with repeat access to the White House, he’s listed nine times (two under “Gara LaMarche” and seven under “Philip G LaMarche.” LaMarche is President and CEO of The Atlantic Philanthropies. As I reported in June, LaMarche is a George Soros acolyte whose charity pitched in $10 million to help fund the astroturf Health Care Action Now group. LaMarche met with Valerie Jarrett for hours-long meetings on two disclosed occasions. Last year, LaMarche’s group donated $18 million to a Chicago charity headed by Jarrett.

*SCOTT LEVENSON. Matthew Vadum notes the visit by ACORN spokesman Levenson with SEIU/ACORN operative-turned-White House political director Patrick Gaspard.

Membership in radical Left circles has its privileges.

A reader just sent this fresh missive from the Fox News Deranged-foot soldiers at MoveOn:

From: Noah T. Winer, MoveOn.org Civic Action moveon-help@list.moveon.org
Subject: Stay off FOX
[Recipient name redacted]
Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 2:05 PM

Dear MoveOn member,

All year, FOX has worked 24/7 to block President Obama’s agenda—repeating lies about “death panels,” promoting Tea Party protests, and whipping up fake political scandals.1

Now, President Obama is fighting back. The White House communications director said FOX is a “wing of the Republican Party…let’s not pretend they’re a news network.”2 To draw attention to its biased coverage, President Obama will not appear on FOX for the rest of this year.3

It’s about time Democrats stood up to FOX! Can you sign this petition asking Democrats to support President Obama’s stance by staying off FOX as long as he does? We’ll deliver it to Sen. Lautenberg and Sen. Menendez. Clicking here will add your name:

http://civic.moveon.org/foxobama/o.pl?id=17603-12662345-_CGt.ax&t=3

The petition says: “Democrats should support President Obama’s effort to call out FOX. Please stay off FOX for as long as he does.”

Democrats often appear on FOX in hopes of reaching out to conservative viewers. But FOX cuts off their mic, distorts what they say, or runs biased headlines at the bottom of the screen.4 In the end, Democrats always lose on FOX.

FOX insists there’s a difference between its news shows and its right-wing opinion shows with Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and others.

But in August, FOX’s so-called news shows “aired 22 clips of town hall meeting attendees opposed” to Obama’s health care plans and zero in support. CNN and MSNBC were more fair and balanced.5

In another “news” story, FOX passed off a GOP press release as its own research—typo and all.6

FOX executives now describe the channel as “the voice of opposition” to Obama’s agenda. FOX president Roger Ailes—a former adviser to Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush—said, “I see this as the Alamo.”7

But a Capitol Hill newspaper reports, “In the House and Senate, Democrats who pledged to follow the administration’s near-boycott of Fox were hard to find, although many expressed support for Obama’s stance.”8

Democrats will only find the courage to join Obama if they hear from enough concerned voters. Sign this petition to ask Sen. Lautenberg and Sen. Menendez to stay off FOX. Clicking here will add your name:

Tomorrow in Minnesota, Obama-bots will gather for a “Big Insurance: We’re Sick of It” demonstration against UnitedHealthcare. Who’s behind it? The announcement is here. It’s a Who’s Who of left-wing astroturfers:

MoveOn? Check.

HCAN? Check.

Van Jones’s Color of Change? Checkity-check-check.

MoveOn claims there are 102 rallies in the works.

No word yet on whether they’ll be protesting at the fund-raiser for Nancy Pelosi in Washington, D.C. being hosted by UnitedHealth care lobbyist Steve Elmendorf — or at the Washington, D.C. law and lobbying offices of Alston & Bird, where Obama health care advisor Tom Daschle consults for UnitedHealth.

Corporate Shills for Hope and Change get a pass.

***

The plan, via WashTimes:

The plan for a series of grass-roots demonstrations Tuesday to promote President Obama’s health care agenda calls for tightly scripted events and an “escalation” of efforts against “enemies” of reform.

Organizers insist there is no comparison to rowdy summer town hall meetings and recent “tea party” protests that have challenged White House policies.

But Health Care for America Now (HCAN), which is backed by a coalition of labor unions and liberal groups including ACORN and MoveOn.org, organized the protests to target insurance companies and drafted the plan, which describes the demonstrations as part of its “insurance enemies project.”

The document, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, details specific talking points, tactics, props and strategies to stage the protests. It lists goals that include action that “mobilizes our base by animating existing anger about private insurers.”

The HCAN field plan dictates that each protest will include a minimum of 30 participants, target only health care insurers CIGNA, WellPoint and United Health Care and showcase what it calls “victims,” or people who have either lost insurance, can’t afford it or were denied coverage because of pre-existing medical conditions.

“We built a campaign to win health care reform and that is exactly what we are working on,” said HCAN national spokeswoman Jacki Schechner, who authenticated the documents. But she asserted: “There is nothing top-down about this.”

Insert laugh track here.

When the story broke last night about a health care town hall scuffle in Thousand Oaks, Calif., that left one person without a part of his finger, it wasn’t clear who bit whom.

MoveOn activists were involved and their accounts colored much of the early coverage.

It now appears that the biter was an Obamacare supporter and the victim was an Obamacare foe.

Thankfully, doctors were able to reattach the severed digit.

No need to imagine the horrified fulminations from the White House to the New York Times to MSNBC if it had been the other way around.

Ed Morrissey looks at the mayhem and the possible charges that both the biter and the bitee (who reportedly threw a punch) might face.

Opponents of socialized medicine must also adjust their chants:

Hands off my health care…and teeth off my hands!

***

Afterthought: President Obama has been telling Americans to make sure they get their shots.

Now, we know why!

New saying in the Age of Obama: If you point a finger, you might not get it back.

The national media doesn’t want to talk about the dominance of conservative books atop the New York Times best-seller list and other national lists.

But it’s clearly getting under the Left’s skin.

At HuffPo, a Soros-tied co-author has launched a bid to dislodge conservative authors — and he’s asking for help from every last nutroots activist out there.

The book that will save America from us evil right-wing extremists and rescue the Democrat agenda from oblivion?

50 Ways You Can Help Obama Change America!

Look, Obama-bots: The book has the weighty endorsements of starlets, rappers, and yes, Teddy Kennedy.

“This book is a great resource to help the President change America by encouraging young people to embrace their civic responsibilities. During his campaign, Obama empowered all of us to take part in initiating change and it’s imperative that we keep that momentum going by involving the next generation.”
—Jessica Alba

“One way to keep America changing and stimulate the economy is advancing the arts…and in this new era of technology, new media, and the new world of how information is shared…a new “art form” needs to be developed…This book provides simple ways to use the arts and other means for making change.”
—Will.I.Am, Black Eyed Peas

“In 50 Ways You Can Help Obama Change America, Michael Huttner and Jason Salzman have given us a practical handbook on how every American can do something for our country. This should be required reading for anyone interested in making a difference and helping President Obama get our nation back on track.”
–The late Senator Edward M. Kennedy

Co-author Michael Huttner urges his fellow Obama cultists to buy the book so they, too, can be inspired to “help Obama pass health care reform, enact other core campaign promises, and move the country forward.”

And the bribe?

It never hurts to offer a little incentive, especially if your incentive has the potential to drive extreme right wingers crazy, so among our prizes is a grand-prize of a trip for two to Honolulu, Hawaii for a private tour of the hospital where President Obama was born, followed by an opportunity to take part in a community service project there on MLK Day of Service, January 18, 2010.

Submit stories and ideas on how people can help Obama change America for the better. Anyone is welcome to enter by sending us their stories by September 30. The winners will be announced on November 4, 2009 – one year to the day that Obama gave his memorable victory speech in Chicago.

…The contest and book are designed to inspire more people to help–at a time when progressive values are under serious attack in Washington and across the nation.

“Under serious attack” apparently means under attack on the NYTimes book lists:

In its small way, we hope our book and contest will advance Kennedy’s vision of progressive reform in America. And we also hope it contributes to changing the dialogue in this country, at a time when it’s beginning to look a little too much like the Bush era with books by right-wingers Michelle Malkin, Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly topping this week’s national bestsellers list.

Something in the air tells us that in the next few months, progressives will make their voices heard even louder than they did during the campaign. Let’s get fired up, ready to go.

Translation: Please buy our book. Get those awful conservatives off our turf. Do it for Teddy!

***

Huttner is the founder of “Progress Now” – a Democrat group of non-profit satellites funded with start-up money from billionaire George Soros and the Democracy Alliance — whose board members include SEIU International Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger and ACORN embezzlement cover-upper Drummond Pike.

This is what left-wing “grass-roots” look like:

It’s getting ugly out there.

All across the country, right-wing extremists are disrupting congressional town-hall meetings with venomous attacks on President Obama’s plans for health care and clean energy.

* Last night in Tampa, Florida, a town hall meeting erupted into violence, with the police being called to break up fist fights and shoving matches.1
* A Texas Democrat was shouted down by right-wing hecklers, many of whom admitted they didn’t even live in his district.2
* One North Carolina representative announced he wouldn’t be holding any town-hall meetings after his office began receiving death threats.3
* And in Maryland, protesters hung a Democratic congressman in effigy to oppose health-care reform.4

We’ve got a plan to fight back against these radical right-wingers. We’ve hired skilled grassroots organizers who are working with thousands of local volunteers to show Congress that ordinary Americans continue to support President Obama’s agenda for change. And we’re building new online tools to track events across the country and make sure MoveOn members turn out at each one.

But we need to scale up our efforts quickly to make sure this plan works. To really swing into action during this month’s congressional recess, we need to raise at least $250,000 immediately. Can you chip in $15 to support our work?

https://pol.moveon.org/donate/august.html?id=16748-7648820-qGXL5Fx&t=1

If the shouts of the right-wing mobs are the only voices our senators and representatives hear over the recess, we’ll have a hard time passing health care and clean energy legislation.

That’s why we’re launching our Heat Up Congress campaign so quickly to fight back, using new technology to implement rapid response town hall turnout, organizing personal phone calls from small business leaders and donors to their representatives, running new ads, and activating an energized network of on-the-ground organizers and volunteers.

This month could decide the future of health care and clean energy in America—and we’re already one week in. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, now’s the time to get involved. Talk to your neighbors, go to a town hall meeting—and today, please chip in $15 to support our work:

Thanks for all you do.
