Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Ow. Phew. Let me catch my breath. I just heard about the launch of the Obama administration’s new “Truth Team.”

(Which is, in truth, the same thing as Attack Watch and all the other Obama snitch brigades created over the past three years.)

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahah.

[Wiping tear from eye.]

Yes, the “Truth Team” is here to correct all the lies about the budget process. Michael Czin of Obama for America tweets that the new squad will “help communicate a positive message about the President’s record of keeping his word.”

David Axelrod adds: “When the truth and facts are under assault, this will be a helpful tool to set things straight.”

So far, no word from the “Truth Team” about Obama chief of staff Jack Lew’s big whopper about the fundamentals of the budget process:

“You can’t pass a budget in the Senate of the United States without 60 votes and you can’t get 60 votes without bipartisan support,” Lew said. “So unless… unless Republicans are willing to work with Democrats in the Senate, [Majority Leader] Harry Reid is not going to be able to get a budget passed.”

That’s not accurate. Budgets only require 51 Senate votes for passage, as Lew — former director of the Office of Management and Budget — surely must know.

White House officials did not dispute that Lew misspoke. When asked about the discrepancy, a White House official said “the chief of staff was clearly referencing the general gridlock in Congress that makes accomplishing even the most basic tasks nearly impossible given the Senate Republicans’ insistence on blocking an up or down vote on nearly every issue.”

This wasn’t just a one-off “mistake.” Lew repeated the same false talking points on another show:

Newly-named White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew was not only recently budget director for President Obama; he was also the budget director for former President Bill Clinton. So when he speaks about the budget process, you would think he speaks with authority.

That’s why his comment on CNN jumped out at us. He also said something similar on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” when asked about the number of days since Senate Democrats passed a budget plan. (1,019). Lew’s response: “One of the things about the United States Senate that I think the American people have realized is that it takes 60, not 50, votes to pass something.”

Pants, shirt, coat, and head to toe on raging fire! These people will do anything — anything — to spread the fraudulent narrative of GOP obstructionism.

***

Senate GOP communications advisor Ryan Wrasse tweets that the White House “released their FY ’13 budget earlier this morning, but has “no opinion” on whether or not the #Senate should pass it.”

Heritage Foundation’s Rory Cooper sums up the audacity: “Same White House that deliberately said it takes 60 votes to pass budget yesterday launches #TruthTeam today. Unbelievable.”

The Obama budget will be available here after 11:15am EST.

***

GOP Rep. Paul Ryan on Obama Budget Fail: “An unserious budget w/ serious consequences.”

The President has not merely ducked from our fiscal and economic challenges, but—with his fourth straight budget flop—he has advanced policies that dangerously accelerate the crisis before us. His gimmick-filled budget fails to reduce the fast-rising debt, permanently entrenches unsustainable levels of government spending, and erects new barriers to upward mobility. His plan stifles economic growth, threatens the health and retirement security of millions of Americans, and commits the next generation to a diminished future.

Spends Too Much: $47 Trillion In Ten Years — A Net Increase Over Current Projections

After four straight years of trillion-dollar-plus deficits (breaking his promise to cut the deficit in half), President Obama’s budget worsens our fiscal crisis and speeds the country to bankruptcy. Three years after the passage of the President’s trillion-dollar spending stimulus, this gimmick-filled budget calls for more wasteful spending taken from workers’ paychecks or borrowed from abroad. The massive spending increases are greater than the few proposed spending reductions.

Spending in FY13: $3.8 trillion
Spending in FY22: $5.8 trillion
Increased spending concealed through gimmicks: $1.5 trillion
Total government spending over the next ten years: $47 trillion
Taxes Too Much: $1.9 Trillion In New Taxes

The President’s budget imposes a heavy cost for its commitment to intrusive government—diminishing economic opportunity by imposing the largest tax hike in history. Taking trillions more tax dollars from hardworking American families will further depress wages and destroy jobs at a time when millions of Americans remain out of work. In total, this budget imposes $1.9 trillion in new taxes on families, small businesses, and job creators—all to fund wasteful Washington spending.

Income tax hike: $1.4 trillion Death tax hike: $143 billion Other tax increases: $340 billion
Borrows Too Much: $11 Trillion Added To The Debt

Under President Obama’s watch, the federal government’s total debt has surpassed the size of the economy—undermining job creation today and threatening a debt crisis tomorrow. The President’s budget ignores the drivers of our debt, bringing America perilously close to a European-style crisis:

Deficit in FY12: $1.3 trillion Deficit in FY13: $901 billion Deficit in FY22: $704 billion
Gross debt accumulated during President’s first term: $6.4 trillion
Gross debt at the end of FY22: $25.9 trillion
Annual interest payments on the debt by FY22: nearly $1 trillion

***

@StewSays tweets: “President Obama’s #budget: Deficits Built to Last.”

It’s always useful to have more confirmation of the gobsmackingly obvious. The Daily Caller provides a deeper glimpse into the Soros-backed Media Matters/Democrat propaganda machine.

Before we get to that, recall that I posted an e-mail last week showing how the Soros monkeys coordinated with Capitol Hill “allies” on Keystone XL.

I’ve also noted how a former Media Matters researcher spearheaded dirty tricks for Sen. Charles Schumer’s Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee several years back.

The Media Matters sycophants have repeatedly attacked the few reporters digging intrepidly into the Fast and Furious scandal.

And I’ve covered former White House communications adviser Anita Dunn’s war on Fox News — Media Matters’ Public Enemy Number One — in-depth on this blog.

TheDC adds more pieces to the coordination puzzle:

A group with the ability to shape news coverage is of incalculable value to the politicians it supports, so it’s no surprise that Media Matters has been in regular contact with political operatives in the Obama administration. According to visitor logs, on June 16, 2010, Brock and then-Media Matters president Eric Burns traveled to the White House for a meeting with Valerie Jarrett, arguably the president’s closest adviser. Recently departed Obama communications director Anita Dunn returned to the White House for the meeting as well.

It’s not clear what the four spoke about — no one in the meeting returned repeated calls for comment — but the apparent coordination continued. “Anita Dunn became a regular presence at the office,” says someone who worked there. Then-president of Media Matters, Eric Burns, “lunched with her, met with her and chatted with her frequently on any number of matters.”

Media Matters also began a weekly strategy call with the White House, which continues, joined by the liberal Center for American Progress think tank. Jen Psaki, Obama’s deputy communications director, was a frequent participant before she left for the private sector in October 2011.

Every Tuesday evening, meanwhile, a representative from Media Matters attends the Common Purpose Project meeting at the Capitol Hilton on 16th Street in Washington, where dozens of progressive organizations formulate strategy, often with a representative from the Obama White House.

In the past several years, Media Matters has focused much of its considerable energy on the Fox News Channel. The network, declares one internal memo, “is the de facto leader of the GOP and it is long past time that it was treated as such by the media, elected officials, and the public.” At the end of September 2009, Burns made the case publicly in an interview on MSNBC.

Fox, he said, “is a political organization, and their aim is to destroy a progressive policy agenda.”

Less than a month later, in language that could have been copied directly from a Media Matters press release, White House communications director Anita Dunn leveled almost precisely the same charge, dismissing Fox as “more a wing of the Republican Party.”

From the Soros monkeys’ keyboards to Obama’s mouthpieces’ mouths…

Knowing how the messaging machine works is important. But I think it’s the policy coordination between Team Obama and Team Soros that deserves more scrutiny.

As I’ve noted before, several Soros-backed Center for American Progress operatives have traveled through the White House revolving door — subverting transparency, targeting conservative political dissenters, and crafting policies that undermine our economy and free speech.

How many more?

About half of U.S. households receive a government benefit of some sort, and there is no sign of either entitlements or the government’s “tax a lot and spend even more to bring down the debt” mentality slowing down. After that, simple mathematics takes over and chaos ensues. Just ask Greece:

ATHENS, Greece — The Greek parliament approved on Monday a deeply unpopular austerity bill to secure a second bailout from the European Union and International Monetary Fund and avoid a messy default.

The vote occurred after 100,000 demonstrators marched to the parliament and buildings were burned down in central Athens. Following the vote, black-masked protesters created a wall of fire with petrol bombs and set fire to cinemas, cafes, shops and banks.

Fifty police officers and at least 55 protesters were hospitalized. Forty-five suspected rioters were arrested; a further 40 were detained.

Following the vote to cut $4.35 billion — which means axing one in five civil service jobs and slashing the minimum wage by more than a fifth — violence spread to other Greek towns and cities, including on the holiday islands of Corfu and Crete.

“I’ve had it! I can’t take it any more. There’s no point in living in this country any more,” said a man walking through his smashed and looted optician store.

Greece, and much of Europe for that matter, provide an unpleasant glimpse into what the future holds for the United States (as Daniel Hannan has warned). Will our government heed that warning? Unless changes are made in November and well beyond, that won’t be the case.

Americans should avoid all but essential travel to all or parts of 14 Mexican states, the U.S. State Department warns as violence has spread.

Shootouts, kidnappings and carjackings have climbed, as have cartels, also known as transnational criminal organizations (TCO), the State Department said this week in a broadened travel warning.

While millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico every year, the country’s ongoing violence and security concerns pose risks for U.S. citizens, and travelers should take precautions, the State Department advises.

No matter where you’re traveling in Mexico, the State Department recommends that you “lower your profile and avoid displaying any evidence of wealth that might draw attention.” It’s the same advice State gives to Wall Street millionaires planning on walking through “Occupy” encampments.

This map really puts the scope of the problem in perspective (h/t Tammy Bruce and Gretawire):

If you’re not good at reading maps, just remember that it’s like choosing which wine to have with fish: Avoid the red.

Doug Ross:

Say, I’ve got an idea! Let’s have the ATF deliver thousands of weapons to the Mexican drug cartels. Maybe that will help!

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is underway in Washington, DC. Naturally, OWS protesters are there to greet conference-goers and to roll out a welcome mat made of astroturf.

Michelle Fields from the Daily Caller caught up with a demonstrator who claims he’s being paid. Not only does the guy in the video below say that a union local is paying him $60 a day to “Occupy” CPAC, but he also claims everybody in his group is being paid.

Some are clueless as to what it is they’re protesting (note: if the video below isn’t loading try this link):

If you aren’t creeped out by the No Birth Control Left Behind rhetoric of the White House and Planned Parenthood, you aren’t listening closely enough. The anesthetic of progressive benevolence always dulls the senses. Wake up.

When a bunch of wealthy white women and elite Washington bureaucrats defend the trampling of religious liberties in the name of “increased access” to “reproductive services” for “poor” women, the ghost of Margaret Sanger is cackling.

As she wrote in her autobiography, Sanger founded Planned Parenthood in 1916 “to stop the multiplication of the unfit.” This, she boasted, would be “the most important and greatest step towards race betterment.” While she oversaw the mass murder of black babies, Sanger cynically recruited minority activists to front her death racket. She conspired with eugenics financier and businessman Clarence Gamble to “hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities” to sell their genocidal policies as community health and welfare services.

Outright murder wouldn’t sell. But wrapping it under the egalitarian cloak of “women’s health” — and adorning it with the moral authority of black churches — would. Sanger and Gamble called their deadly campaign “The Negro Project.”

In other writings, historian Mike Perry found, Sanger attacked programs that provided “medical and nursing facilities to slum mothers” because they “facilitate the function of maternity” when “the absolute necessity is to discourage it.” In an essay included in her writing collection held by the Library of Congress, Sanger urged her abortion clinic colleagues to “breed a race of thoroughbreds.” Nationwide “birth control bureaus” would propagate the proper “science of breeding” to stop impoverished, non-white women from “breeding like weeds.”

Speaking with CBS veteran journalist Mike Wallace in 1957, long after her racist views had supposedly mellowed, Sanger again revealed her true colors: “I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world — that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically. Delinquents, prisoners, all sorts of things just marked when they’re born. That to me is the greatest sin — that people can — can commit.”

Sanger also elaborated on her anti-Catholic animus, telling one of Wallace’s reporters that New York Catholics had no right to protest the use of their tax dollars for birth city birth-control programs: “(I)t’s not only wrong, it should be made illegal for any religious group to prohibit dissemination of birth control — even among its own members.” When Wallace pressed her (“In other words, you would like to see the government legislate religious beliefs in a certain sense?”), Sanger laughed nervously and disavowed the remarks.

Fast forward: Five decades and 16 million aborted black babies later, Planned Parenthood’s insidious agenda has migrated from inner-city “birth control bureaus” to public school-based health clinics to the White House — forcibly funded with taxpayer dollars just as Sanger championed.

Several undercover stings by Live Action, pro-life documentarians, have exposed Planned Parenthood staff accepting donations over the years from callers posing as eugenics cheerleaders who wanted to earmark their contributions for the cause of aborting minority babies. “We can definitely designate it for an African-American,” a Tulsa, Okla., Planned Parenthood employee eagerly promised.

What has cheap, easy and unmonitored “choice” for poor women in inner cities wrought? Nightmares like the Philadelphia Horror, where serial baby-killer Dr. Kermit Gosnell and his abortion clinic death squad oversaw the systematic execution of hundreds of healthy, living, breathing, squirming, viable black and Hispanic babies over 4 decades — along with several minority mothers who may have lost their lives in his grimy birth control bureau.

City and state authorities looked the other way while jars of baby parts and reports of botched abortions and infanticides piled up. Beltway Democrats who now bray about their concern for “women’s health” were silent about the Gosnell massacre and countless others like it in America’s ghettos. Why?

The Obama administration is crawling with the modern-day heirs of the eugenics movement, from Planned Parenthood golden girl Kathleen Sebelius at the Department of Health and Human Services to the president’s prestigious science czar John Holdren — an outspoken proponent of forced abortions and mass sterilizations and a self-proclaimed protege of eugenics guru Harrison Brown, whom he credits with inspiring him to become a scientist.

Brown envisioned a government regime in which the “number of abortions and artificial inseminations permitted in a given year would be determined completely by the difference between the number of deaths and the number of births in the year previous.” He urged readers to “reconcile ourselves to the fact that artificial means must be applied to limit birth rates.” He likened the global population to a “pulsating mass of maggots.”

Listen carefully as this White House dresses its Obamacare abortion mandate in the white lab coat of “reproductive services” for all. The language of “access to birth control” is the duplicitous code of Sanger’s ideological grim reapers.

If you outlaw throwing footballs on the beach, only outlaws will throw footballs on the beach:

The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County.

In passing the 37-page ordinance (PDF) on Tuesday, officials sought to outline responsibilities for law enforcement and other public agencies while also providing clarification on beach-goer activities that could potentially disrupt or even injure the public.

The updated rules now prohibit “any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll” any object other than a beach ball or volleyball “upon or over any beach” between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

My guess is that the Board of Supervisors, in an abundance of concern for the health of all beach-goers, is worried that overly active people throwing footballs and frisbees could eventually lead to an innocent bystander spilling his container of complimentary City of Los Angeles heroin needles all over the sand, where an illegal alien might then step on one — and that’s a risk that can’t be taken. Goodbye frisbees and footballs!

Digging holes in the sand over 18 inches deep is also prohibited — unless you’re filming a movie or TV show of course:

Photoshop credit: VVM

The Right twittersphere has been buzzing for the past week about planned ambushes of CPAC 2012, the annual gathering of conservatives in D.C., by the Occupier mob. The conference kicks off today and every major Republican speaker has a giant target on his/her back — because every fame-seeker, troll, Michael Moore wannabe, and glitter-bomber will be looking to claim their 15 minutes of infamy.

Lachlan Markay at Heritage reported on the saboteurs’ schemes earlier this week:

During a Thursday meeting at McPherson Square, until Saturday the epicenter of the protests, Occupiers brainstormed tactics for shutting down or disrupting the conference, according to a source who was present at the meeting.

The protesters suggested pulling fire alarms in the hotel where the conference will take place, screaming “fire” during conference activities, “glitter-bombing” participants, cutting electrical power, and barricading entrances to the hotel, according to the source, who requested anonymity.

“Speakers will be physically assaulted, not just verbally confronted,” the source told Scribe in an email. Two Occupiers, who the source also identified as members of the New Black Panther Party, “said they would be disappointed if they didn’t get arrested and planned to ‘make it count.’”

The source quoted another protester as saying, “Mitt [Romney] has Secret Service now, but [Newt] Gingrich and [Andrew] Breitbart don’t,” seemingly suggesting that the latter two would not be as heavily guarded.

Protesters planned to conduct most of these activities on Saturday, the last day of the conference, so as not to overlap with the recently announced protests by labor groups on Thursday and Friday.

Labor Union Report has details of the Big Labor goons’ plans:

According to the AFL-CIO’s Washington DC Metro Council website, “Actions are currently being planned for noontime andafter work on Friday, February 10.”

Apparently, the unions plans to attempt to disrupt the conference with rats, puppets, and more:

WE’VE HEARD ENOUGH FROM THE 1%! Join the rally featuring tents, an inflatable fat cat, puppets, “candidate Walmart,” and more to LET THE VOICES OF THE 99% BE HEARD!

There is also a Facebook page for Occupy CPAC, posted by Change to Win staffer, Trina Tocco. It is important to note that Change to Win is the SEIU-led federation that broke away from the AFL-CIO in 2005—which means both union federations are involved in planning the attacks on CPAC.

Alas, for a mountain of family obligations and other reasons, I won’t be at CPAC this year. But I’ve been there and done that with the ambushers. And my advice is simple:

Mockery is the best medicine.

If they bring the glitter, you bring the silly string.

When they scream and spit, spray Lysol.

When they make a mess, bar the door and don’t let them leave ’til they clean it up.

Then soldier on!

***

Flashback: The conservative bloggers who attended BlogCon in Denver earlier this year ably dispatched the Occupier mob with hilarious wit and political jujitsu.

***

Commenter squeaker1: A “Super-Soaker” filled with lightly perfumed water would work well on smelly protesters.

What’s a week without more suspicious Solyndra news? This should be enough to get us by until the inevitable almost weekly document dump that could come tomorrow.

From the Washington Times:

Fast running out of money, solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC last summer sold off nearly $60 million worth of inventory for less than $20 million in cash to a newly formed corporate entity closely tied to the company’s biggest investors, records show.

Backed by $535 million in federal loan guarantees but burning through the little cash it had left, Solyndra made its first sale in late July to a corporate entity that had been formed just a day earlier. Three more transactions followed over the next few weeks with the same buyer, Solyndra Solar II.
[...]
Todd Zywicki, bankruptcy professor at the George Mason University School of Law, said it’s not unusual for troubled companies to sell off assets to improve liquidity. But he said the inventory sales figure cited by Solyndra — $58.1 million in inventory for $17.5 million in cash — seems unusual.

“The test under the bankruptcy code is whether the sale was for reasonably equivalent value and selling inventory at such a huge discount raises real concerns,” he said. “If Solyndra Solar II is owned or controlled by any insiders or anything like that, then it becomes even more suspicious.”

No word on how much the whistling robots were re-sold for.

Would the aforementioned bankruptcy professor consider these to be “insiders”?

Solyndra Solar II was formed in Delaware by affiliates of Solyndra’s debtor in possession lender — investors Argonaut Private Equity and Madrone Capital Partners — as well as other debt holders, bankruptcy and government records show. Another special-purpose entity, Solyndra Solar LLC, was formed to purchase the company’s accounts receivable.

Argonaut is the investment arm of a foundation headed by billionaire Oklahoma businessman George Kaiser. Madrone Partners has ties to Wal-Mart’s Walton family.

The real test is to wait and see if Solyndra Solar II (Electric Boondoggleoo) sells that inventory for which they paid $17.5 million back to the government for ten times that amount so the Department of Energy can offer it to the next clean energy upstart taxpayers will be on the hook for and thus complete the “green jobs circle of life.”

Obviously glass tubes used in solar panels must have not been in demand during the resale process. Your tax dollars at work:

I’ll give him this much: with or without a budget, they manage to find ways to spend almost equally irresponsibly, so maybe he’s onto something:

At a briefing with journalists on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, Hoyer was asked, “Mr. Hoyer, around the same time of the State of the Union [on Jan. 24], I think it was the same day, Republicans were trying to hit Senate Democrats for 1,000 days without passing a budget, and then you talk about this milestone today, 400 days without a jobs bill in the Republican House. But then on Friday [Democratic Senator Harry] Reid said that he didn’t think they needed to bring a budget to the floor this year [and that] the Budget Control Act can serve as a guideline.”

Hoyer said: “What does the budget do? The budget does one thing and really only one thing: It sets the parameters of spending and discretionary caps. Other than that, the Appropriations committee are not bound by the Budget committee’s priorities.”

He continued: “The fact is, you don’t need a budget. We can adopt appropriations bills. We can adopt authorization policies without a budget. We already have an agreed-upon cap on spending.”

They don’t need a budget, and it shows:

Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee believes that the only thing standing between America and another horrific day like 9/11 is an army of blue-gloved unionized government employees.

From Politico:

Handing airport screening duties to private companies could result in another terrorist attack like Sept. 11, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said Tuesday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration authorization bill awaiting President Barack Obama’s signature directs the Transportation Security Administration to let more airports privatize their screening areas.

“My comment: we are looking forward to returning to 9/11,” Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said at a House Homeland Security subcommittee hearing.

You know who I wouldn’t want working airport security? A sizable chunk of Congress, starting with Sheila Jackson Lee — and she’s a government employee… go figure.

Note to SJL: It’s not as if the government-run TSA is without its little glitches.

Scroll for updates…early results in Minnesota and Missouri looking good for Rick Santorum…SWEEEEEEEEEP!

You can get live, updated Colorado GOP caucus results here.

Minnesota caucus results will be here.

And Missouri primary results here.

***

Update: Networks projecting Santorum the winner in Missouri.

And he’s leading early in Minnesota.

What did I tell ya? Santorum’s got game. (ICYMI: My endorsement post last week.)

Now, he needs your help to unite the Right.

***

Note: If Santorum sweeps these critical battleground states tonight, he will have won more states than “frontrunner” Mitt Romney (he has snagged three states).

Nothing is inevitable in politics.

Also noteworthy: Santorum is doing this with just a fraction of Mitt Romney’s money.

Money can take you far, but just like Mitt Romney learned in 2008 and is learning again, it can’t seal the deal.

***

Commenter TigerLady:

I’ve had so many people tell me today my vote in Missouri “doesn’t count”. I voted Santorum. If it “doesn’t count” at least I exercised my right to do it.

Fun fact from Erik Telford:

Romney won the 2008 MN Caucus w/ 41%. Tonight, he garnered 16%, placing 3rd behind RON PAUL. That Pawlenty endorsement really helped…

T-Guffaw.

***

Update 10:54pm Eastern: Santorum at Missouri victory speech: “Conservatism is alive and well in Missouri and Minnesota…1600 Pennsylvania better be listening.”

Staying focused: Santorum blasting radical Obama policies — cap and trade, Obamacare, bailouts — in Missouri victory speech.

Romney shares many of the same positions as Obama.

“I’m not the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. I’m the conservative alternative to Barack Obama.”

“Supply-side economics for the working man is resonating.”

“I care about 100 percent of Americans.”

“Freedom is at stake in this election.”

Update 11:35pm Eastern…Santorum maintaining lead as precinct returns get tallied up here in Colorado.

Significant: Romney lost Adams County to Santorum. He won 67% there in 2008. Barely scraped together 31 percent this year. This is the Denver suburbs.

Update 12:30am It’s a squeaker. With 51 percent reporting and liberal Denver and suburban Denver votes coming in, Romney has eked ahead for the first time tonight 37-35 over Santorum. El Paso County, where I live, is still counting votes. Santorum has a big lead here and these votes will offset some of the Denver edge Romney has.

Update 1:04am Eastern – GOP Party Chairman of Colorado Ryan Call announces on CNN that with 98 percent of precincts reporting, Rick Santorum has won Colorado, completing his 2/7 trifecta.

He “exceeded expectations,” says Call. His margin of victory in my home county of El Paso was 1300 votes.

Update 1:38am – With 100 percent precincts reporting, final margin of victory:

Denver Post coverage of Colorado caucus results:

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum upended the race for the Republican nomination Tuesday, winning three states including Colorado.

Colorado’s race see-sawed throughout the night until 11 p.m., when Colorado GOP Chair Ryan Call declared Santorum the winner. But the race was a near tie.

“This is a major upset,” said Denver-based political analyst Floyd Ciruli. “Definitely, there is a new story now.”

Even Romney, who easily won the Republican contest in 2008 with 60 percent of the vote, acknowledged in his speech from the Auraria campus his new challenger.

“This was a good night for Rick Santorum, but I still expect to become the nominee,” he said. “I look forward to the contest to come.”

***

I repeat: The “frontrunner” with a $30 million war chest now has won fewer states than Rick Santorum.

I repeat: Money can take you far, but just like Mitt Romney learned in 2008 and is learning again, it can’t seal the deal.

***

Mitt Romney: Tonight, you were Rick-rolled.

***

Santorum won Minnesota, Missouri, and Colorado the same way he won Iowa: Hard work.

Congratulations, Sen. Santorum, on your 2/7 trifecta!

Now, get ready for the attacks, the press smears, more glitter, and likely CPAC ambushes. Forewarned is forearmed.

Former Democratic congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper, a Catholic from Erie, Pennsylvania, cast a crucial vote in favor of Obamacare in 2010. She lost her seat that November in part because of her controversial support of Obamacare. But Dahlkemper said recently that she would have never voted for the health care bill had she known that the Department of Health and Human Services would require all private insurers, including Catholic charities and hospitals, to provide free coverage of contraception, sterilization procedures, and the “week-after” pill “ella” that can induce early abortions.

“I would have never voted for the final version of the bill if I expected the Obama Administration to force Catholic hospitals and Catholic Colleges and Universities to pay for contraception,” Dahlkemper said in a press release sent out by Democrats for Life in November.

What part of Nancy Pelosi’s health care law proclamation didn’t Dahlkemper understand?
