You just have to laugh.

Heartily.

When I noted that the Occupy Wall Street movement was filled with a sea of progressives of pallor and challenged the Tea Party-bashing media double standards on calling attention to the demographics two weeks ago, the occupiers filled my Twitter stream with profanities and racial epithets. Soros Monkeys tried to “debunk” my basic point by picking out a few brown faces in the Kamp Alinsky Kids’ crowd.

And also: By screaming “RAAAAAAAAACIST” at me.

Now, the progs are admitting out loud what I needled them for when this whole thing started: They don’t practice what they preach. They never have.

The Associated Press reports:

Jason Woody immediately recognized a shared struggle with many of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators: The 2007 college graduate has been out of work for two years, and it’s been longer since he’s seen a doctor. He also noticed something else — the lack of brown faces on the front lines of the Occupy movement.

“When I started out here … I realized there was not a lot of diversity out here,” said Woody, who is black and graduated from Morehouse College and has camped in a downtown Atlanta park with other protesters for more than a week. “It’s changed in the course of the past week. I’d like to see that grow.”

…The Occupy Wall Street protest in New York has been more diverse than other cities. Although the majority of protesters are white, many blacks and a smattering of Asians and Latinos have participated.

Among them is Omar Henriquez, a Long Island resident who emigrated from El Salvador. He passed out Spanish-language copies of the Occupied Wall Street Journal on Friday. He has been taking the newspaper to Latino and immigrant rights groups. He also is unemployed.

“That’s why I’m here,” said Henriquez, 55. “It’s incumbent on us, Latinos here, to bring more Latinos here. We don’t have to be invited to come, we just come.”

Actually, they don’t “just come.”

Remember: Many non-English-speaking day laborers are being PAID to come.

Manufacture/Subsidize Diversity!

Somebody call the fire marshall, because the underside of Barack Obama’s bus was already dangerously overcrowded, and yet another body has been thrown under:

The White House is contradicting the NASA administrator’s claim that President Barack Obama assigned him to reach out to Muslims on science matters.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently told Al-Jazeera network that one of the charges Obama gave him was “to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering.”
[...]
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that such activities are not among Bolden’s assigned tasks. He said administration officials have spoken with NASA about the matter.

If that’s the case, why didn’t the Obama administration stuff a turban in Bolden’s mouth when he started talking about Obama tasking him with a Muslim outreach way back in February?

Does this sound like a guy who made it all up on his own — twice?

Maybe Obama’s people recognized that announcing a “Muslim outreach” just after telling some NASA employees and others that they’d be losing their jobs due to “new directions” in Obama’s vision for the space program was bad PR, so they decided to roll over on Bolden. I doubt that’s the reason though — Team Obama seems to have a pretty high tolerance for ignoring the will, opinion and outrage of the people.

Government-sanctioned and mandated segregation and discrimination were bad. Having to sit in the back of a public bus because you’re black was, to understate the matter, unpleasant. And denying women the vote because they’re women? Not cool.

But I believe people should be free to associate with whomever they wish during their private time, even if they belong to a no-blacks or a no-women private club. I support their right to not associate with certain people socially, even if I’m the sort of person they don’t want to associate with.

Publicly, it’s a different matter. Like it or not, we live in a racially integrated society, where every individual’s rights are protected. The government may not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race and sex, but individuals may.

To some people, that sounds strange.

Thou shalt worship before the god of diversity at all times.

You may recall the National Council of Women’s Organizations demanding that the men-only Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters, admit women. Female guests of members can play at the club; they just can’t join. I suggested that Martha Burk, former head of the organization, start her own co-ed golf club instead of trying to tear down someone else’s.

The latter is easier than the former, isn’t it?

I feel the same way about whites-only private clubs. As long as private clubs don’t accept taxpayer funds or tax breaks, they may refuse membership to anyone for any reason. Accepting public funds brings them within the purview of the state, and the state may not discriminate on the basis of race and sex. (Ironically, federal, state, and local governments discriminate on the basis of race and sex all the time. It’s called racial preferences.)

For example, the problem with a private whites-only club in Kentucky, mentioned in the Washington Post, is that it takes tax deductions for member dues. Stop that practice, and the government should have no say in the club’s membership.

Doesn’t that sound reasonable?

White Christmas.

Yesterday, the sanctimonious liberal elites at the New York Times publishes a separate but equal gift guide for people “of color.”

It began: “Somali fashion, do-it-yourself henna kits, children’s books that draw inspiration from the lives of Barack Obama and Sonia Sotomayor: it’s not hard to find gifts created for and by people of color this holiday season. Here are some possibilities.”

Mary Katharine Ham rightly took the p.c. zealots to task: “Actually, some of the gifts are nice, but they’d be nice for any number of New York Times readers, not just for their minority readers. For instance, a Barack Obama children’s book could likely be enjoyed by white liberals as much as by black people. I know I may blow the New York Times’ mind, here, but there are also black conservatives who might not appreciate it. Imagine that! White folks could, and even would, buy nail polish created by people of color. The designs of Somali twins Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim look lovely for people of all hues. And, so we reach the ironic pinnacle of the liberal sophisticate’s compulsive striving for ‘diversity.’ I believe it was Martin Luther King Jr. who famously said we should buy each other presents, based not on the content of our character, but the color of our skin.”

Heh. Mockery is always the best medicine. I say we take it a step further and come up with a holiday gift guide for New York Times executives — a “practice diversity as we say, not as we do” bunch that exhibits as much racial diversity as it does ideological diversity. Which is to say: Little to none. What’s that handy adjective person of pallor Chris Matthews used? Oh, yeah: Monochromatic.

Behold the NYT board of directors:

(FYI: The NYTimes editorial board is similarly complected.)

I propose the first gift:

And a second:

Live by racial bean-counting, die by racial bean-counting.

Ho, ho, ho!

This is how we got into the subprime mess in the first place: Pandering to minority grievance lobbies.

Here they come again, with the backing of race hustler Rep. Maxine Waters:

WASHINGTON, Sept 26, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Maria Kong, President of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) today urged Congressional leadership, President Bush and Secretary of the Treasury Paulson, to act fairly and responsibly to ensure that minority-owned real estate, finance and legal professionals are included among the firms tapped to manage the multi-billion dollar asset portfolio the government plans to purchase from failing Wall Street investment houses, and flailing financial institutions.

“Minority business participation in this $700 billion bailout is as crucial to rebuilding our nation’s economy and stemming further community destabilization as shoring up Wall Street. We wholeheartedly support Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Chairwoman, Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity and urge her colleagues, and the Administration to heed her consideration in this matter. As compromises are made to gain full support for the legislation’s passage, there should be no compromise with regard to minority participation in the plan’s implementation,” said Maria Kong, President of NAREB, the nation’s oldest minority trade association founded in 1947 to ensure equal housing for African-Americans and other disenfranchised minorities.

“Minority real estate and finance professionals are imminently qualified and poised to be part of the economic recovery. Urban and minority communities have been devastated by the economic downturn. And as importantly, minority professionals are part of these communities. As Secretary Paulson and Congress extol that transparency is key to the plan’s success and restoring public confidence in the nation’s financial system, the transparency in implementation must show that the expediency of the moment does not negate the inclusion of America’s minority professionals. Our businesses and our communities deserve the same opportunity for an economic turn-about as Wall Street does,” Ms. Kong concluded.

Who cares what they look like? It’s what they think like that matters. As I’ve blogged here many , many, many, many , many , many , many times over the years, Foggy Bottom is plagued by CAIR capitulationists and America-lasters who put appeasement above American sovereignty.

We should worry less about skin pigment, and more about skin thickness. We should worry less about skin lightness or darkness, and more about dhimmitude.

I’ll be blunt: Hearing such 9/10 talk from the Secretary of State on the seventh anniversary week of the 9/11 attacks makes me want to throw up.

***

Meanwhile, here’s the latest Looks Like Al Qaeda graphic for you:

A jury in the U.K. has found three men guilty of conspiracy to murder in the trans-Atlantic airline “liquid bomb” plot.

Abdulla Ahmed Ali, Assad Sarwar and Tanvir Hussain were found guilty of plotting to kill “persons unknown,” but not necessarily on planes.

The prosecutor told jurors during the trial that the men planned to attack United Airlines, American Airlines and Air Canada flights by smuggling liquid explosives onto jets and detonating them in-flight.

Several firefighters e-mailed me about this incident in Boston. When is a racial “hate crime” not a hate crime? You know the answer:

A Boston firefighter is mending from what could have been deadly stab wounds he suffered early yesterday morning when he was allegedly jumped in East Boston while off duty by a group of Hispanic males who told him they “don’t want any gringo here.”

Though police are not classifying the incident as racially fueled, the Boston Police Department’s Community Disorders Unit is investigating. The 32-year-old jake, whose name officials were not releasing, is white.

…MacDonald said the firefighter had gone to Chivas Restaurant in Day Square to grab takeout when “six guys started exchanging words with him. He indicated he was just there to get a sandwich and that he was a firefighter. They pushed him.”

Hoping to avoid a confrontation, MacDonald said the firefighter got into his car and headed for his station for safety’s sake, but the pack followed him on foot. It was shortly before 2:45 a.m.

“As soon as he got out of his car, six guys jumped him and started kicking and punching him,” MacDonald said. “He felt two sharp pains in his chest and knew he had been stabbed.”

The firefighter works at Engine 5 on Saratoga Street.

The blogosphere is monitoring the travels and travails of diversity training huckster Glenn Singleton.
Hans Bader reports:

He claims that “white talk” is “verbal, impersonal, intellectual” and “task-oriented,” while minority talk is “emotional.” He also blames white teachers for the minority achievement gap, saying that racism is “ubiquitous” among whites, even though the gap is equally present in classes taught by minority teachers, and even though Asians, who are non-white, have higher average grades than whites in many school systems. And he claims that Mark Twain was a racist, even though Twain fought racism in an era when racism was sadly popular.

But so deep is the politically correct rot in the schools that Singleton has been hired not only by U.S. school systems and colleges, but also by a misguided school board in Nova Scotia, Canada (the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board).

This is deeply ironic. Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms doesn’t have strong protection for free speech akin to the First Amendment, so racist speech in public is banned in Canada under its so-called “human-rights” codes. Any white school teacher who said the offensive things that Singleton says about minorities — that their speech is not “intellectual,” “verbal,” or “task-oriented” — would be subject to prosecution by a human-rights tribunal. The same might even be true for a minority teacher. Yet Singleton gets paid big money — “a six figure fee” — to promote these offensive, racist stereotypes.

More here and here.
(Hat tip – Orbusmax).

If you’re a parent get up to speed on this p.c. snake oil peddler.

Neeever mind.

The Democrats need to replace their donkey emblem with a photo of Gilda Radner’s SNL character, Emily “Neeever mind” Latella:

After inveighing stubbornly for months about their non-negotiable demand for an Iraq withdrawal timetable, the Dems are pulling a Latella. The nutroots will not be happy. Via Politico:

Each day lately, Democrats inch closer to giving President Bush more money for the war in Iraq without any serious mandates for withdrawing U.S. troops.

Democratic leaders are loath to acknowledge they’ve backed off, but lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, as well as congressional aides, say Democrats are trying to find a way to provide continued troop funding while searching for some compromises that show they’re still intent on challenging the president on the war.

The possible conditions for troop funding include anti-torture rules and benchmarks for Iraqi political reconciliation, language sure to upset an impatient Democratic anti-war base that wants immediate troop withdrawals.

According to one senior Democratic lawmaker, there’s a growing discomfort among pro-defense Democrats about linking a $50 billion Iraq measure to troop withdrawal.

“We have to come off this lack of funding for the military operations,” the lawmaker said. “We have to continue the funding. We don’t want to look like we’re against troop funding. … We should separate the funding discussion from the rest of the war.”

Now it hits them!

Ed Morrissey invokes Lucy and Charlie Brown.

Meantime, Gen. Petraeus spotlights progress and hard work on the ground:

iting a 60 percent decline in violence in Iraq over the last six months, Gen. David Petraeus said Thursday that maintaining security is easier than establishing it and gives him more flexibility in deploying forces.

Armed with charts showing that as of Wednesday, weekly attacks and Iraqi civilian deaths have plunged to levels not seen here since early 2006, Petraeus said the reduction lets him make force adjustments to address remaining problem areas, which would include northern Iraq.

Speaking to reporters at the U.S. military’s Camp Victory, he said the improved security is due to a number of factors including a “a reduction in some of the signature attacks that are associated with weapons provided by Iran,” as well as a cease-fire called by radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr that he said had a particularly noticeable impact what had been one of the most violent areas of Baghdad.

And he said there has been a “reduction in some of the signature attacks” associated with insurgents using Iranian weapons, including deadly armor-piercing rounds.

But, he added, that it is “hard to tell if that’s because there has already been a cessation of provision of those items, or if there has been direction to stop.”

At the same time, he said the military has detained individuals as recently as October who were trained by Iranians, evidence that the instruction has continued.

Petreaus, who is scheduled to give Congress and the American people an update next March on progress in Iraq, and map out some plans for U.S. force levels down the road, refused to offer too much optimism.

“Nobody says anything about turning a corner, seeing lights at the end of tunnels, any of those other phrases,” said Petraeus. “You just keep your head down and keep moving.”

Have you ever had to undergo “diversity training?” I did when I worked at the Seattle Times. Corporations fork out big bucks to politically correct police who put you through insipid sensitivity exercises. These people lack common sense, humor, and nuance. Every reference to race, ethnicity, gender, or physical appearance is a firing offense. The trainers treat employees like kindergarteners. It’s excruciatingly painful and insulting–and always wrapped in white guilt. Under the guise of fighting stereotypes, the diversity-mongers inevitably engage in exactly the kind of behavior they claim to condemn.

One employee in Denver has had enough of the diversity racket. He’s blown the whistle on a Blame Whitey diversity video (hat tip – Slapstick Politics):

The city of Denver is showing its employees a diversity training video that portrays a white man as a narrow-minded buffoon – triggering allegations of “institutional racism” against Anglos.

“Right now, their diversity program is racially motivated against white males,” said Dennis Supple, a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning mechanic who has worked for the city 1 1/2 years.

The video, titled Laughing Matters – Think About It, is meant to show employees how humor at the expense of others diminishes respect in the workplace. The character who breaks all the rules is Billy, a white, blue-collar worker who’s a racist, sexist goofball.

In one scene, Billy is told that another employee named Carlos can’t do anything because he’s waiting for supplies.

“What’s his problem?” Billy says. “He can’t sell breakfast burritos without the supplies or he takes a siesta?”

Supple said the video violates his civil rights and that he’s considering taking the equity in his house to file a lawsuit to stop the city from showing it.

“Diversity, to me, doesn’t mean hammer the white guy,” Supple said. “Diversity means you have respect for everyone, regardless of their race, their gender, their religion, their sexual orientation.”

The video is like a bad, bad Onion parody. Here’s a snippet:

The Drunkablog notes that the city of Denver brags that the video “developed by the city’s Diversity Advisory Committee in collaboration with Channel 8, the city’s television channel, won second place in 2005 for Instruction/Training from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors.”

In fact, the video was planned to be “the first in a series.”

Your tax dollars at work.

***

Wonder if the diversity advisors will be making any of these videos for college campuses?

If any of you followed my work at the Seattle Times, you know how closely I covered the battle against government racial preferences in Washington state. You may remember that Washington passed Initiative 200 to ban government racial preferences in public hiring and education. Despite massive establishment opposition (led by my then-publisher), the measure was approved overwhelmingly–even in liberal enclaves like Seattle and other parts of western Washington. As in California and Michigan, the Left fought bitterly to undermine the letter and spirit of the law. One of the areas where inequality in the name of “diversity” reigned was the Seattle public school system. Several parents rose to challenge the racial bean-counting and have fought in court since 1998. Their case reached the Supreme Court, which will issue a decision this morning. I’ll be busy liveblogging the Senate shamnesty debate, but the folks over at SCOTUSblog will be covering the release of the racial preference cases wall-to-wall live beginning at 10am. Stay tuned.

10:34am Eastern update breaking:

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected public school assignment plans that take account of students’ race.

The decision in cases affecting schools in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle could imperil similar plans in hundreds of districts nationwide, and it leaves public school systems with a limited arsenal to maintain racial diversity.

The court split, 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts announcing the court’s judgment. Justice Stephen Breyer wrote a dissent that was joined by the court’s other three liberals.
