The 7/7 attacks: who is Magdy El-Nashar?
Magdy El-Nashar, an Egyptian man with North Carolina ties, is wanted by London police in connection with last week’s terrorist bombings.
El-Nashar had a PhD in biochemistry. He studied chemical engineering at North Carolina State in 2000. Based on this list of recent graduates, it appears he did not complete his course of study at NCSU.

THE 7/7 ATTACKS: BEHIND THE MASK
Remember this famous photo of one of the 7/7 terrorist attack victims?
LondonToronto Sun columnist Mark Bonokoski has a moving piece today about the woman behind the mask and the man who assisted her:
“She never once cried.”
Her name is Davinia. His name is Paul. Read the whole thing.

The 7/7 attacks: the BBC backslides
It’s back to terrorist-whitewashing business as usual at the BBC. The perpetrators of the 7/7 attacks are no longer “terrorists.” They’re just “bombers.”
Biased BBC has a round-up of BBC watchdogs. Harry’s Place has the lowdown on BBC’s editorial scrubbing; also here. Meryl Yourish keeps track here and here.

THE 7/7 ATTACKS: WHO DID IT? PT III
The NY Times echoes what I noted on the 7th, and what many other War on Terror watchdogs have warned about for years: “For a Decade, London Thrived as a Busy Crossroads of Terror.” The Washington Post runs a similar story: “In London, Islamic Radicals Found a Haven.”
Mediacrity takes a closer look at one of [...]
9/11 THROUGH A TINFOIL LENS
Joe Gandelman blows the whistle on another 9/11 hijacking…by conspiracy-monger Oliver Stone.
Mickey Kaus has more (via Instapundit).
Maybe Oliver Stone will hire these French textbook writers to help out with the screenplay.
Meanwhile, Captain Ed (who I had the great pleasure of hosting for dinner last night, along with the First Mate!) raises questions about Steven Spielberg’s [...]

The 7/7 attacks: debunking the “Israel knew” myth
You won’t be able to persuade the conspiracy nuts otherwise, but those early reports of Israel being warned in advance of the bombings were erroneous. See Power Line and The Corner for details.
The 7/7 attacks: looking homeward
Do you remember what happened on May 5, the day of the British parliamentary elections? A bomb went off at the British consulate in Manhattan. Reminder:

THE 9/11 GRANDSTANDERS ARE BACK
Ugh. The 9/11 Commission is back for another round of self-aggrandizement, armchair general-ing, and Bush-bashing. Winfield Myers at The Democracy Project has predictions and some advice:
If you were worried about a dull season ahead, the media feeding frenzy that would result from the reconstitution of this committee should relieve you of those worries, albeit at [...]
HIJACKING IN PROGRESS?
Drudge has the headline.
Update: Nope. Thank God.
U.N. EMPLOYEE QUESTIONED IN NYC BLAST
Bumping this story to the top from my a.m. post on the NYC blasts. A few more details from CNN:
The detainee works at the world body’s weapons inspection agency as an analyst, the official said. Another U.N. source said the man is a satellite imagery analyst.
The FBI is not calling the man a suspect, said [...]

This city is expected today to become the first in the nation to pull out of an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, following a series of disagreements between [...]
THE MINNESOTA SCHOOL SHOOTINGS
There has been plenty of TV coverage of the school massacre in remote northern Minnesota. Tons of stories at Google News and Yahoo. Plus full Drudge treatment.
But that hasn’t stopped some grievance-mongers from complaining that racism against Native Americans is somehow affecting news coverage. Check out a few of the letter-writers to TV Newser (here [...]

Jeff Quinton continues to update his coverage on the Atlanta courthouse shooter.

MUST-READ OF THE DAY
My good friend and fellow Philadelphia Daily News columnist Michael Smerconish has an important and incredible column today about the airline worker in Maine who encountered Mohammed Atta on 9/11:
MICHAEL Tuohey “stared the devil in the eyes and didn’t recognize him.”
Now he kicks himself for not having acted, although if he had, our government probably [...]
REMNANTS OF 9/11
It was another sad milestone for 9/11 families today. The medical examiner’s office in New York has announced it will halt efforts to try and identify the remains of the 2,749 people who were killed in New York on Sept. 11, 2001:
Speaking in the Bronx yesterday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the remains would stay at [...]
PAN AM FLIGHT 103: LEST WE FORGET
Reader Joe L. reminds me that today was a significant day in the War on Terror–back when the Islamists had been waging the war, but most of us had failed to see it yet. Writes Joe:
It was on this date, 16 Feb 1989, that investigators announced that the cause of the 1988 crash of Pan [...]
